This will interest those who either don't have their own horse or share/part loan.

BHS are launcing a scheme along the lines of the PC centre membership, where a RS becomes a riding club too.

I'm certainly interested in it, as obviously I can't do PC or RC activities as don't have my own horse; but would love to do the activities & get involved. And will look forward to reading more indepth info about it.

Anyone else read it - thoughts - just another scheme or something that could work?
 
RS we used had a Sunday loan scheme. In fact I used to loan Bobby before I bought Pickle from them. They ran shows as well, so we could have a go at dressage, SJ or cross country. Stopped a couple of years ago as they felt the horses weren't getting enough time off. Shame because it stopped the horses getting stale - Sundays were mostly hacking & fun riding days, but I think it was a problem of having enough suitable horses to make sure they all got a couple of days off work.
 
oh i hope the riding school i go to doesthis if it works as it would give more people the chance to see if they would like to do this sort of thing

This is a new scheme - not a pony loan for the day.

It's exactly the same principle as the British riding clubs but for non horse owners
 
The scheme is initially being aimed at RSs that are BHS approved. If you think you would enjoy being part of this, and the stable owner would be interested then they should contact BRC to register their interest & ask for more details.
 
I am a bit confused because BRC already offer membership to non-horse owners at a discounted rate? What is the difference with this new scheme?
 
Under that membership - what is the member entitled to be able to do? Can they take the exams for example?

It says in the article that "....give BHS affiliated RS clients the chance to take part in activities such as training, competitions and exams, that are normally only available to those who belong to a seperate riding club."

i think its a good idea! i myself cannot afford a horse, and at the moment, needing to learn to drive to get a job means that im not loaning a horse at the moment either, just riding my friends old 13.3 pony to keep it exercised!
 
Yes members can take exams but I suppose the ridden bits may be more difficult so that is possibly where the difference comes in.

It has been possible in the past for Riding Clubs to be based at Riding Schools but the BHS emphasis has always been on keeping accounts separate rather than encouraging them to do so. I suppose it could be a good thing but the take up of the ABRS exams has not been widespread - will the BRC exams be any more popular?

The sport is on the up though and anything which educates people can only be a good thing.
 
That's an interesting point about the exams - big thing that strikes me in a good way is cost.

BHS stage 1 complete - £130
Stage 2 complete - £150

RC exams, they're £7.50 each (according to website) and once you've passed levels 1 - 3 - you get direct entry into Stage 3

For me as a student who wants to eventually get their AI, it's a good thing. And I've met a lot of other people of varying ages where BHS costs put people off
 
Do bear in mind that the £7.50 is just the cost of registering the pass/fail with BRC Head Office.

On top of that will be costs for tuition sessions and the examiners fee.
 
Oh yeah, that was in my head but wasn't sure on costs. Even with training etc - still think it's going to be cheaper than doing the BHS training & stages.
