Has anyone read the article in the Sun today (yes, yes, my name is Susan and I read the Sun), about the 16 year old girl who has run off with the 57 year old show jumping judge/course builder.

Picture of the girl showjumping. Is any press coverage good, or does this just perpetuate the Jilly Coopers Riders opinion that non-horsey people have of the "horsey world"?

PMSL Rambo.

Just remember that, next time I'm judging you!! Except, you're not 16 and I'm definitely not 57.

I find it hard to laugh about this situation as I feel very sorry for the girl. She must be so unhappy at home and confused with who she can trust in life to take such drastic steps.

She may well have been sweet and innocent, that's probably what got her into this situation in the first place; being so vulnerable

I've seen something very similar happen in the horse world before

The BSJA said it was a private matter and declined to comment

You can guarantee that although they've said that, his days of working at their shows will have come to an end. This is publicity they will want to distance themselves from.

Similar thing happened when I was in Ireland with two of the liveries. She was actually only 15 when she started 'flirting' with a married father of two aged mid-40's. 6 months later he left his wife offically, he and his now 16 year old girlfriend shipped their horses over to England - that was 5 years ago so don't know what happended to them.
Couldn't see it lasting but you don't know, do you?!

A well-known English lady show jumper left home (albeit with her parents' consent) at 16 to live with a man nearly 30 years older. 11 years on they are still together.

OK I am a bit on the fence with this one, I have a daughter (only 7 currently) and would be worried if this was my own daughter.

however, I think once they hit 18/19 they should be left to get on with it.

I am 36 and my partner who I have just bought a house with is 21......so some would say that is too much of a gap? But we get on great and have a seriously good time as we just click as a team in all ways.

HOWEVER, what disturbs me about this is the fact that the guy doesnt seem to have a lot in the way of looks, maybe he is a very kind grandad sort? - either way none of us now the full story, we only have the parents side.

Dont be too quick to judge (no pun intended!!)

Argh I think its disturbing. He's old enough to be her grandad!

I really don't think a 16 year old is mature enough to know what they want in life - she's never had a boyfriend and suddenly she's shacking up with a man who's almost a pensioner? VERY wrong IMO.

I dont think anyone can judge unless they know the facts. Reading between the lines of the article I read the girl was unhappy at home and he has helped her out and given her lodgings. I dont know what is true, and I doubt any of us do.
For all we know her father could have been abusing her, and shes best away from there.
