If its this big a problem, someone has got to see the sense in compulsory chipping with passports and then ALL horses leaving the country being scanned routinely to catch the stolen ones before they are exported.

Bl**dy thieving scum pinching peoples horses... bring back chopping off thieves hands I say!!!!

They are scum, but I am not sure microchipping is the answer. I think micro chipping, and its use for passports has been the death knell for freezemarking (which was not approved as an identification method), and consequently thefts of horses for export or meat will continue to rise as long as animals are not immediately recognisable without the need for specialist equipment.

I have ot say that I am not totally convinced that they are going to the States thought

Chancer is freezemarked and chipped.

Gypsy cobs fetch huge amounts in the US.

Passports are a joke - until they are tightened up anyone can get one for a stolen horse and there are no checks made to see what is already issued.
