Well my horse has been diagnosed with low articular ringbone. He is quite lame in trot, has had one lot of steroid injections which didn't help. He's had another tonight.

All the reading I have done the prognosis is very poor, he is also on a low dose of bute for a while to see if it helps with the pain. I'm so upset as I've only owned him 7 months. Looks like I'm going to have to retire him at 11. Life sure as hell sucks at times. Can anyone who's horse is going through the same offer me a glimmer of hope?

Hi, it is an awful diagnosis to get but is not end of the road. Somebody on here once said it is just the beginning of a different way of life.
My horse diagnosed 4yr ago, recently had more xrays and it hadn't progressed much at all. He is sound most of the time apart from when ground really hard when he struggles a bit.
Management is important. Lots of turnout, gentle regular exercise and i find a joint supplement and devils relief help my boy.
We were competing at all riding club level and jumping up to 1m but at 18yrs am slowing it down and cutting out the jumping as has been lame in hocks. Has had both hocks and both fronts injected 2 week ago and fingers crossed seems sound.
Hopefully with your boy it will just take time and some light hacking to get him right. A period of bute is often needed until it settles down a bit. My lad had a month on bute and egg bar shoes put on to help him.
Good luck and hope he comes sound x

My first horse was diagnosed with Articular Low Ringbone at 14 when I just had him for two years. He had hunted and ponyclubbed all his life though.

He was put on box rest and bute for about 4 weeks to settle it down and then farrier and vet got together and decided on Natural Balance ( the original aluminium ) shoes , with appropriate trimming. A couple of months later he had a course of Cartrofen injections and was to be worked while having them.

He was put down at 22 with an obstructive colic , having just a couple of weeks beforehand won a National RC Dressage competition. I didn't jump him much though as I don't really like jumping , just popped an occasional log out hacking or did a few jumps in a lesson. It never stopped us doing what I wanted though.

I was careful about his management , lots of turnout, deep bed , farrier every 5 weeks , no long hols , Cortaflex didn't let him get overweight . I found Bioflow magnetic tendon wraps great before a lesson and would give him a bute after anything overstrenuous.

I hope you are able to work out something for your horse , its not the end , it certainly wasn't for me and Rambler.

I just worry as he is a heavy weight cob, although I try to keep him trim. I hope he can be helped he's such a sweet boy. Hard to believe in March we went to our first show and got 5 1st. Now we struggle to hack :-(
