Hello there,

I have always wanted to have a painting (head shot) done of my mare and I feel like should start investigating the options rather than just thinking about it.

I am happy for the painting to taken from a photo but trouble is finding a reputable truly talented artist  I have had a look online anf there are many but how to choose!?

Of course I want the painting to look like her and not just of a dark bay horse if that makes sense? So the painting needs to capture her spirit, and what makes her "her". Sorry I dont know how else to word what I mean :o

I am happy to pay a a decent fee for the painting but I want to ensure as much as possible I will be happy with the outcome, if at all possible!

So........has anyone had a painting done of their horse and if so were you happy and more importantly can you recommend the artist?

Many thanks
Sadiemay

Horsegirl! Thanks for letting me know :).

I havent seen Papa Frita around lately, is she still around on the forum?

That link just links me me to a general page of paintings, I cant see your painting as not surw which might be yours  Can you point it out at all as would love to see it.

I realised that after I posted it :)

In the drawings of horses it is the 12th row down 3rd across, horse with a rosette. It was a Christmas prezzie for a friend.
She also did

I think she is still around but I emailed through her website

WOW that is an amazing drawing! She is VERY talented!

Love the piccie of the horse too :)

Ideally I would like an oil painting but I will drop her an email through her site to see what she can do as I would like more than one picture/painting anyway and I love her drawings.

Thanks again

papafrita on this forum. She has done a horse and several people drawings for me but she does paintings too. Excellent and very reasonably priced, quick too!!

This is the horse she drew for me

I can't recommend her enough :D

Have had three portraits done by her now (as presents for other people) and every one of them has been fantastic. Am hoping to get a portrait of my boy done by her for my 21st birthday pressie :D Each of the portraits she's done for me have been in coloured pencil. First two are A4 sized and the last one was A3

Hi Sadiemay, I do oil paintings of horses and will happily do one of your mare. I work from photos so it is very easy to organise and always try to keep my prices as reasonable as possible. The pictures in my signature are all oil paintings I have done. Have a look on my website too if you'd like to see more examples. http://www.animal-artwork.com/
Feel free to pm me for more info.

My husband is an equestrian artist, and gets a great likeness. His website is www.mark-langley.com if you want to have a look, he does other subjects as well but horses are where it all started.

You may have seen his work before he exhibits at shows like Burghley and Your Horse Live.

Just to give you an idea of the likeness he gets we have had people go past the stall at shows and say "oh my god that is xxxxxx's horse/dog" they recognise the animal without even knowing that the person has had a picture done. This has happened many many times with many different pictures.

He's got a bit of a waiting list at the moment so best to book early if you are interested. You can drop him an email at the address on the website to discuss things further and get a quote.

WOW! Thanks so much to everyone who replied :)

I'll look at all suggestions made on this thread and then try and find a nice piccie or two of my mare or maybe take some new pics when spring finally arrives and go from there.

Thanks again!

Tell me about it minesadouble!

At this rate I will have to have one done from each artist as they all look wonderful :D

Papa Frita - aka Pilar.
A fabulous artist who's done a few portraits for me for presents etc.
So talented it makes you green with envy and a genuinely lovely person too.
Shes amazing and the money she charges does not reflect her talent. :)
