Ok, I'm breeding my mare for the first time (see post on here asking for stallion suggestions).

I've asked several experts for their advice on what stallion they would choose for my mare and have gotten different answers from all of them!

I've talked to the following:

Jens Meyer
Johannes Brinkmann
Zuchthof Klatte
Ludger Beerbaum's Stud manager
State Stud Celle
Schockemoehle Stud
Eugen Julean
Dr. Ludwig Christmann of the Hanoverian Verband
Judy Yancey
Brookhouse Stud

Each of these breeders have seen video of my mare as well as her test results from her inspection and Mare Performance Test.

It seems the more advice I seek the more confusing it all gets!

I guess my question is, what would YOU do?

Thanks!!

I would be interested to know which stallions the Brookhouse stud recommended as well as State Stud Celle and Shochemohle? I looked at all their stallions myself before choosing Diamond Hit from Brookhouse.

I have a colt who is showjumping bred from the Contender line. He moves well enough for dressage which is what I bought him for and has the easiest most laid back temperament and personality. I have heard that the Contender line is known for good temperament.

Brookhouse suggested Chequille Z

State Stud Celle suggested Edward

A breeding expert from the Hanoverian Verband suggested several:

Lokomotion
Chalet
Campus
Shalimaro

Schockemoehle suggested Furstenball

Thanks!

Furstenball is the flavour of the month but I'm not sure I would use him for what you want. I definitely wouldn't rule out Chequille as he is the only stallion who is listed in the top sires of Germany for both showjumping and dressage. He was on my shortlist of stallions and I wanted something sensible too. Have you considered Fidertanz? His offspring have good temperaments and are usually very good looking but I think he suits a long lined mare ie not too compact. I have just had a quick look at what has been selling in the experience Hanoverians and notice that horses by Rotspon have been good sellers. Rotspon is really well known in dressage terms for rideability and trainability. Laurantianer is another stallion known to pass on good sensible temperament and trainability.

Honestly?
I'd go with my gut reaction as to which stallion you like the best.
Years ago we rarely looked at bloodlines etc more used our own opionions and you need to feel this is the one if you are breeding something for yourself.
Ideally of course you would see each stallion in the flesh, after visiting the Stallion Showcase recently I was surprised to find some stallions I'd thought nice on paper were actually amazing when seen up close.
The only other advice is use an agent who has an excellent reputation, if in doubt, ask on here. Don't be fooled by hype, and statistics are frequently manipulated, I would also join the horsebreedersforum where you will find plenty of breeders who are happy to help you. Good luck !

Ok, I've narrowed it down to TWO stallions. I'd like advice on which you think is the best choice and the reasons why.

Ginger Spice is by Graf Top out of an EM by Riviera. Here is a link to information on Ginger from her breeder, including a pedigree: http://southlanefarm.com/Foals 2007/Ginger/Ginger.htm

If you'd like to see video of her, there clips were taken in Sept. 2010 at her MPT in Canada.
