My 12 year old dog has just been diagnosed with heart problems, the drugs are very expensive; £89/month. When I looked them up on the internet I can see that if I have the prescription I can get the same stuff for £36. While I accept the vet needs to make a profit in order to run a successful business, at the moment I am very strapped for cash and I need to make that saving. Does anyone have experience of asking for the prescription and how much did they get charged for the pleasure ?

I would just explain that you have found it cheaper and could they issue a prescription. My vet charged me £8 last time to issue a prescription for pony's drugs, it was a repeat x 2 prescription which covers the drugs for 9 months. In all fairness to vets, sometimes they can't compete on prices as they don't buy in great quantities, it was actually my vet who advised me to have a prescription and go elsewhere.:)
