Assistance at shows / competitions

It depends on what you mean by assist. If it is just help with tacking up, grooming, horse holding/minding, general support etc then I'm sure there are people out there who would happily come and help without payment.
I would be an example of someone who would be pleased to do this. I don't ride or have a horse any more, after many years of horse owning, competing. I love it when someone asks me to go with them to a show to help.
Maybe offer lunch or something.
If you mean to come and instruct in any way, then I feel you should have to pay for their time.

I do this for a handful of people. I'm just there for if there is an emergency, give a hand with getting on, entries, basically anything they need a hand with. One person I help out has a son who is 10 who I just give a hand when they go out somewhere as she finds it stressful to deal with the son and the pony.

I do it for free though, I do it for personal experience for me but I normally get lunch bought for me or something similar. At the end of last year one person I helped out bought me a lunge cavesson to say thank you :)

But as previous poster said, if your instructing in anyway then I think a normal teaching fee should be expected.

I'd buy/provide lunch etc and some bigger shows free entry pass but don't get many takers. Have found that it is actualy more fun to go on your own than go with someone such as OH, boyfriend, friend etc who doesn't really want to be there! They make everyones day miserable and the payback takes forever.
