so happy start.
SJ- warmed up fab and really pleased with 1 to 5 then not sure what went wrong but had 4 down

really disapointed.

Off to the XC and at Tweseldown she Pi**ed off with me big style, no brakes what so ever so today tried american gag, well either she hated it or was off colour as we never got going, not like her usually have hands full and last time scared me so much was giving up
shocked.gif
had nothing in the tank today.

If the vids work see for yourself after the vid had glance off at corner and then stopped going into the water so retired, feeling despondant and just can't work out my horse, its all or nothing???

Hmmmmm....don't know what to suggest, but such a shame as you two seem to have such a *thing* going together normally
frown.gif
Perhaps she was a little off...perhaps she didn't appreciate the *dodgy* eventing showjumps (having converted over the winter
wink.gif
), or perhaps she was just being a mare
tongue.gif

I'm sure it'll come right next time out. Well done on your dressage if nothing else
smile.gif

Sorry to hear you didn't have the best of days.... we've all been there one way or another - don't you dare give up
crazy.gif
I like reading your reports and seeing photos of Saf - she really is gorgeous
laugh.gif

Sorry to hear she was off form
frown.gif
Could it be a season thing? P has been REALLY flat so have given her a week off, came back into work yesterday pinging and working better than ever (could be the full feeds she has been on tho!) I do hope you get to the bottom of it x

Maybe she didnt feel happy in the strong bit ie some horses like to feel that little bit more in control.
Think WFP had a problem with Stunning, he couldnt wouldnt run if he was overly bitted, so they compromised with a pelham and stunning run fine in that although wfp did feel that he was a bit strong, but controllable.

You had a good rhythm in the sjing to start with, although you trotted going into fence 3?? so lost a bit there but was lovely through the treble.

I wonder if she works herself up now, perhaps she scared herself a little at T too??

Im glad to see you made a better job of the trakenher than i did last year
wink.gif

But i am sorry to hear it didnt go to plan
frown.gif

Will you run at Mattingley? i think you may just need to play around with bits... maybe she is a little off colour.. weather has changed - try her on some biotal or pink power?

Hugs hun!

Hi Saf,

Sorry to hear that it didn't go entirely to plan. I agree with the others that it may just be a case of playing around with bits in the cross country. I know rcehorses that have refused to race after being overbitted. Am sure you'll find the solution, don't feel too downhearted. These blips are what sorts the men from the boys (as it were). There will be a solution it's just a matter of finding it

I found your lorry yesterday but you weren't there. I reckon you were probably doing your dressage warm up. I'd done all three phases by 11am so we got a burger (very tasty burger actually) and trundled home.

We had a "distinctly average" day with a dressage in the bottom third, one down sj and 10.4 time pens xc. I was pleased with him though, he's still quite green but is starting to get the hang of it now.

Will you be going to Mattingley?

sorry to hear it didnt go too well - dont give up tho! Everyone has off days, and i know its not the same as eventing, but i often want to give up on Archie after hes been rearing in his dressage tests so i know how you feel (sort of). You've been doing so well so dont let a little set back get to you.

Maybe she was just having an off day, or perhaps shes coming into season or something - you just never know xx

your not the only one to have a bad day at aston saf, and i too have come home wondering whether to give this whole eventing lark up!! my horse too was very flat right from the get go and he's usually as sharp as anything, got pulled up in the dressage as he looked a bit footy, judge was happy for him to carry on, went over to show jumping but it just wasn't happening, jumped a couple of warm up fences but he just felt like he had no petrol in the tank, so i withdrew and trecked my 3hrs home! now i don't know if i should go to mattingley on friday in case the same thing happens in the dressage again, trouble is he doesn't like the hard ground......will there be more grass cover there? aston had none and was rock hard, such a shame as they had pulled out all the stops for jumping. very deflated today
frown.gif

Ahh sorry to hear this Nicky.
Im pretty sure that Mattingley will have a good coverage of grass
smile.gif

If anything, it will prob be very wet there
frown.gif
but it always holds up well.

Does sound that perhaps after all this hot weather horses are feeling a little low that theres something going around..

Hi V
Thank you for you comments, in usual form have spent last 12 hours mulling through things, is it me? is it her etc so firstly have organised a blood test for monday to rule that side out first.
If its clear will run at Mattingley will less in the mouth and just see what happens, if only they could talk

Hugs received with thanks

Hi LR
Sorry I missed you, would have been good to catch up. At least you got to go home before the really horrid rain, the journey home was pants.
I was really impressed with the amount of work they had done on the ground, the course looked fantastic and I am gutted did not get to jump more.
Having Saf blood tested just to make sure so will make late decision on Mattingley. If do run will try another bit?
Are you running there?
grin.gif

Hi
Sorry you had a similar day, if only they could tell us whats wrong?
I'm having Saf blood tested just to make sure, I defo had no petrol yesterday, I suppose I should not complain last time out she scared me going to fast but this was the complete reverse
confused.gif

Mattingley make loads of effort on the ground, I'm dressage thur if bloods ok so can let you know?
Lets hope we have a better run
grin.gif

Hi C
Have you taken her temp?
This sounds very similar to winston back end of 2005 done a season eventing all fine until the last event - charlton park, dressage was flat and he litterally dragged himself over the fences!
Took him home before xc and found he had a temp. He was fine within a couple of days.

Yup, I'm going to Mattingley. One of the first to go again so another 4am start I suspect!

Fingers crossed the bloods come back fine for you and it's just a matter of bitting.

A glance off at the corner and stop and the water isn't that bad though. It's easy to glance off a corner and it was very narrow. I took both long routes at the waters because I thought they were both quite testing. Try not to be too down about it.

Mattingley is closer to home, the ground should be good and you'll have a chance to test out a new bit
smile.gif
Don't lose faith yet, eventing's full of ups and downs after all.

Hope to catch up at Mattingley.
