Just got the renewal through for our Pointer Husky cross (insured with Sainsbury's), and it has gone from £6.47 a month last year to £16.87 this year

This is for a dog who is now 14 months old, and has had no claims or incidents whatsoever since we've had her. I did some research online and found I can insure her for £8.29 a month with almost the same benefits and the lifetime of illness cover with M&S.

When I phoned Sainsbury's to discuss with them, they told me very abruptly that they wouldn't negotiate and I should take their price or leave it!
Guess what? I left it and insured with M&S.

How can my insurance more than double in a year, and with no explanation from the company concerned?

When I got my British Bulldog at 8 weeks I got a quote and it was for £ 80 per month, needless to say we took our chances and put that money aside if we needed it. Oh boy did we need it.

Thats quite a jump though especially if you haven't made a claim, I deffo think its worth having for peace of mind though.

£80 a MONTH!

I would have been astounded at that - can many people afford to pay that I wonder?

ETA That my horse doesn't cost me that much to insure! And in fact, when I had two horses it wasn't costing that!

Yes we were shocked but we were told it was because this breed have a high chance of skin probs, breathing probs and general health issues cos of the way they are bred. Even my vet said her heart sinks when a bulldog approaches.

All true, mine is not a freak bulldog but he has skin probs and back leg lameness as a puppy that he grew out of.

In hindsight we should have had the insurance but as they say you always find the money from somewhere.

Crikey Charlie!!

Thanks for the warning in my thread, I won't be asking them for a quote then...

that is nothing. I used to pay at first £13per month for my great dane. The following year it went up to £20 and this year they (Argos) quoted me £114!!!! I nearly died of shock, would not be able to afford that. Bear in mind my dog has never had a claim in entire life!
I can say that all those insurance companies such as Tesco, Sainsburys, Argos will hoik you in with low premiums that they will put up within year or two to ridiculous amount.
I am insured with pet plan now for £35 per month, which is fair enough as she is getting on now. But i would URGE all the dog owners to boycott all those companies that cash in on our pets. Insure your animals with pet plan or kennel club. you may pay little extra from the beginning, but you can be sure their premiums rise with inflation and not with other lame excuses that came out of Argos. I certainly would not consider insuring with anybody else but pet plan now. Lesson learned!
