Astro-turf , any one have any ?

Does it get too hot for the dogs in summer though? I think I have read this is the case.

I put up with mud. When looking at houses for sale I pass by anything with a low maintenance garden, purely for the dog's benefit.

Don't know yet we've only had it a fortnight, but friends have it and have said there's no problems. We used to put up with the mud but this winter was one too many, and combined with not being able to train agility away from home we needed something for everybody's sanity!

Pity the poor hedgehogs ?.
My brother has it but I’m not allowed at his house so I’ve no idea what it’s like. He and his wife are thrown into extreme distress at any reality (mud, dog hair, dust) so I imagine it is good at restricting all of those. Except dog hair perhaps!

My OH has suggested this before and I have always been dead against it but the mastiff has turned the garden into a ploughed field with his charging up and down so I need some kind of solution … It's also on a steep slope so any kind of pebbly type arrangement will end up at the bottom anyway.

Nothing compares to real grass. Ours take a 2 hours to mow, plus monthly trimming around trees and edges and scarifying to get rid of the moss. I really like having an excuse to amble with purpose, escorted by the cats and dogs.
Also like having the wildlife borders which aren't cut, and the roughly cut heart shaped area of teeny blue flowers creating a blanket in the middle of the lawn. The doves and woodpigeons sunbathe on the dewy grass early on summer mornings.
Plastic may be fantastic, but freshly cut grass smells of summer days.
