Having just had horse walker installed, have a concrete walkway and we are trying to decide on a surface.
Have just been to see some rubber, however its come from under an astro turf pitch and bloke was asking why astro turf would not be more suitable.
So as a temporary (short term) measure would rubber mats (quite thin) with astro turf on top be suitable for horse walker.

Thanks, cannot afford to spends thousands of pounds on rubber paviors etc..

Not unless you want to practice slides  Astroturf is slippery, and when wet, slippery turns to ''impossible to stay upright on''.
I have a mixture of sand and tarmac chips/fine gravel - a bit firmer than the arena, but still with plenty of give.

I wouldn't think it would be suitable at all. We got some second hand heavy rubber mats off ebay a couple of years ago and they do the job well and cost £300
