poor doglets have been so uncomfortable today in the heat, and it doesnt help that it is a nightmare in the caravan as it is even hotter inside :( It has taken them until now to stop panting and stretch out asleep, even though all windows are open, the fan is on, and the curtains were closed to block out the sun :(

Tomorrow I will be cold hosing them I think, they absolutely hate it and go mad when I do it, but I am worrying about them panting for so long (obv they have loads of water to drink btw!) :(

Wish you lived close to me, mine have spent half the day in the stream. I'm not even walking them at the mo either, they're getting 20 minutes in the field a few times a day.
That combined with all the beer and chocs is making me fat :p

I think it's to cool down in the middle of the week.

Oooooh what I would do for beer and chocolate just now.....:D I walked them first thing this morning, the woods were lovely and cool (we just splatted the one spaniel enroute :o:rolleyes:) and that was fine, they seemed to get hot just from turning Boblet out in the field tonight as they had to wait while I poo picked! Nice to see them relaxed at last though :)

Supertrooper - actually that is a really good idea, they wont be able to fight so much against a wet t-shirt :D Typical that the white dog gets much hotter than the two black ones....

My two have spent all day flinging themselves down in the cool bits of grass under the big tree in the garden - we have just been for a short walk round the fields as they really weren't interested earlier - neither was I!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just seen the weather on Countryfile and the temperatures will be dropping back down to cooler by the end of the week.:)

Oh GH I know how you feel. I lost our first rottie to a heart attack brought on, I suspect, by the heat. I am manic about keeping them cool but if I try to hose them down it just stresses them out more.
Can you tether them outside til it cools down a bit. I also give mine flavoured ice cubes and put ice in their water.
Can't see either of them letting me put a t shirt on though!!

I did take them outside earlier Mattilda, when the sun had gone down a bit, and they stood around panting and squeaked at me instead :D I think tomorrow I will fasten them to their benching chains, and try tethering them under the huge beech tree which is just outside, it must be cool there as there is lots of long grass too :)

LOL Spudlet - I would love to try a paddling pool, not sure about Amy but the other two hate water and avoid it as much as possible! Silly dogs really dont know what is good for them :o

I recommend a pool like this http://www.elc.co.uk/toy/wave-pool-1/ They may need a bit of encouragement to begin with though, but if you get them to stand in it to begin with and just sponge them down it might help. I also use wet towels aswell to cool them down, though the t-shirt idea is a good one.:)

Just had a look at the link BS - for sick squid i will definitely be trying one of those, ELC for me tomorrow :):):)
