Sooooo, its 8 and a bit weeks till xmas eve...and as you will know from a previous thread of mine, its going to be an exciting one in our household :D

Normally, I would slate anyone for talking about xmas so early, but i just cant help myself!!

A bunch of us go for a tinsel ride on either xmas eve or boxing day (or both!!) The horses get their reins etc kitted with tinsel, they wear a santa hat and rug and the riders are covered in the stuff too. Even my old man comes for the walk with our youngest niece on board. (by old man, i mean horse, not father/OH!!)

So what dyou guys do with your geegees at xmas time? Do you have any traditions? Ahhh this is going to be a good one and I'm excited!!!

(We had a look at a pony for our eldest yesterday, unfortunately not suitable, but it all feels so real now!!) :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I'm excited too. I have started singing jingle bells already!

I won't be riding at Christmas as will be going home for a few days. But will deffo have tinsel on my nag the last show before the Christmas holidays :D

I LOVE Christmas. I am actually just sitting here starting my christmas list and everything.

I think it is the best time of the year as I get to see all my favourite people gathered in one place. It's wonderful :D

Pony will only be 18 months and I may not be at home. If I'm moved then I'll give her a special dinner, open her presents with her and take her for a walk. If I'm away then it will be a normal day for her :( I used to go for a Christmas ride all dressed up.

Agreed! Specially when there's a young'un in the family, because they make it feel so much more exciting!

Nooooooooooooo!

I can't be doing with Christmas it's just a load of commercial crap for the majority. I'm atheist so don't believe anyway but if it is to be celebrated then I think its true meaning should be emembered! However, no one will take no for an answer so I always end up getting dragged in to it. Bah Humbug!! I think if you've got kids its probably a nice time.

The village has a gathering round the Christmas tree with mulled wine and mince pies which is always a nice event so I'll give Christmas that.

I normally go tescos Xmas eve and buy load of cheap veg for the horses. And can of guiness..... Nom nom nom.

Don't do anything else, might put tinsel on my tack.... Gay my horse up a bit. Lol

Ha Ha love it, I have been buying some christmas decorations today :) and have already tried them up to make sure they look nice :)

Kids have been watching Mickey Mouse Once Upon a Christmas this afternoon, can you tell I love Christmas time, when everyone just stops and the family get together, although this year will be the first just me and the kids as husband now works away and won't be home until 29/30 December :(

On the up side that means me and the kids get to have 2 christmas's (sp)

Have started "treat box" as well, the tin of chocolates, boxes of matchmakers, tubs of pringles, mini cheddars (but no twiglets, yuk) etc. The stuff you can't open till Christmas but is still going in February :)

I am a stalwart atheist too. Which is why I just view it as an absolutely lovely excuse to get together with all the people I love most and have a lfantastic meal and actually spend some time with them. what more could you want in life?

I think Christmas is great because, even though most people aren't religious now, it really brings people together. Great stuff :D

LOL - but I don't want to spend time with my family!! :) Its the forced togetherness that I most object to!

Actually, last year we did Christmas with friends in teh village and it was lovely. Yeah - perhaps I'm not as miserable an old witch as I try to make out ;)

hehe. If I had to spend Christmas with my father I might not like it as much either. :D

I'm an atheist, and I celebrate Christmas, not for the religious aspect, but for the enjoyment I get with my children/friends and family. :D

Welshmare- glad youre getting in the spirit :)

Also, LOVE the 'gay my horse up' comment!!!!

I think I *would* love Christmas were it not for the family politics and the cost. This year I am not buying anyone anything expensive, I just don't have the money anymore, but luckily my daughter and friends understand and we're all doing an austerity Xmas :D

We have an elderly widowed father who lives about 1hrs drive from us. He's never been easy to get on with and this hasn't improved with age, doesn't get on well with my OH, doesn't get on well with my brother's OH or her son (only 10) and not afraid to show it, he can't drive to either of our houses, has no friends to spend Xmas with because he can be so unpleasant to other people too. We can't leave him on his own Xmas day, our partners are fed up with having to do Xmas at his house and never with their family (or better- at home!!) and him being rude to them the whole day, so my brother has proposed that we book a table at a restaurant for dad, him and me for 12 noon, have dinner, spend some time with dad and then be home with our families by 5. I hope this keeps everyone happy. I know it's not ideal.

gg I don't think I ever really get out of the spirit,

I love the fact that on that day it's us (normally) the kids now aged 6 and 7 and my parents come over about 3pm till late evening, we are lucky that we get on well with my family and enjoy spending time together, having kids does make it extra special.

Just to make sure I am well on the road to being full of Christmas spirit Love Actually has started on sky so my evenings viewing is sorted :)

We are getting excited already too! A friend came around tonight who told us it was 10 weeks to go, now the kids are too excited to go to bed! We do the xmas ride too along with tinsel, santa hats etc. I must admit I am a real window snooper, looking into peoples windows when they have the lamps on and fires lit, xmas trees up. It all looks so cosy, then back up, untack see to the horses and then in for hot chocolate! lovely!!! Am I the only window snooper........ just a quick glance as I ride past ...... honest!

Juliag- definitely not alone!!

Also take my kids on a drive to look at xmas lights near us. :D

And this year my eldest is getting her surprise geegee for xmas, so it makes it even more exciting!!

I'm normally a big scrooge & won't even mention the 'X' word (or 'C'!) before december. But this year I will allow the word to be used this early as we've cancelled Xmas & are buggering off to America instead!!! So count away lol!! No Xmas day Neddy riding for the daughter this year though :(

I made the christmas cake today. Now all neatly wrapped in brown paper and foil. It has 5fl oz of armagnac in it... and more to go on top.;) Should have been brandy but we didn't have any in the house. Have to get a bottle in soon.
