My rising 4 year old warmblood cross looks so immature, like a 2 year old. She came to use 18 months ago looking very much like the ugly duckling. She has grown upwards this year and has gained some width between her front legs, but otherwise she still seems so much narrower than our other two horses. Last time I measured her height around 156cm several months ago. She is pretty lean coming out of winter, there isn't much to her, although no doubt this will improve over spring and summer, but it adds to the immature gangly appearance. (Will get pics tomorrow in the daylight)
So just wondering when your youngsters filled out and would love to see your pics of your youngsters as they fill out over the years.

My grey really matured during her fifth year. She didn't really grow any taller, but she got wider and went up a rug size.

Fully grown is with the blue halter. ;)

No pics on this phone but my WB really filled out between 4 and 6. He always grew very evenly and was never bum high but he filled out a huge amount in front. At 2 he was very much a TB type but by 7 he looked like a leggy ID.

Mt KWPN just gradually filled out - he's rising 7 now and pretty much done I think (!)

At 2 he was a weedy, downhill thing! 78" blanket, 16.2h at the front, 17h at the back...

At 3 he grew some withers, and stood 16.3h

At 4 he was 17h and got broader. 81" rug.

By 6 he was 17.1 and about 650kg, size 4 shoes, 60" girth, an 84-87" rug.

She's still got plenty of time to fill out, OP. This was Mary when I got her at four: weedy, gangly, and very babyish.

Less than a year later, she looked like this.

By six, this.

And I'll warrant that she isn't finished yet!

I can't do pictures at the moment but my IDx /Irish cob of unknown breeding beastie was 16hh and 6ft6 standard rug when we got her at 5. She was big boned but gawky. She's now rising 8 and 16.2hh and a 6ft9 rug, preferably in "heavy horse" fit! She's build like the proverbial outhouse now.

My Hann x PRE didn't finish chunking out until he was rising 9. At 4 he was a right gangly looking creature. I'll try to find some pictures.

She filled out at three but, at rising 6, has just gone extremely bum high

I'm not sure how much is maturing and how much is change in management, but my cob went from this at six:

To this at seven:

She's gone from her 6'3" rugs being a bit loose to being a bit tight, so I suspect I'll have to buy her new ones for next winter. Bugger.

Crikey, she looks the absolute spit of my horse when I bought him at 3.5 years!

There's hope for the beast!

Still a long way to go though! Not expecting him to fully finish up before he's 8 or 9.

Oh these are great! My rising 2 year old literally looks like a foal compared to some of these pics!!! Maybe he will be a late one!!!

Heres pics of Grace as a foal with her mum, as a weanling, a yearling then a 2yo she's now rising 3yo and a bit of a chunk! (Only the last pic was when I owned her, all others are from previous owners)
