At what age would you send a Welshie to get started/backed?

It's not always about age it's about maturity. I have backed 3yo's as they have been physically and mentally mature enough to take on the job but equally I have left one until it was 5yo because she simply wasn't ready in either respect.

I'd say 4 too. Especially if its a smaller pony, if you send away it will be a slightly too big adult, done at home I'd want spot on groundwork before dumping small child on board.

Nope. I would wait til they were four.
Bet they make a cracking pair!
You are going to drive them yourself I hope!
And where are the pictures. Not seen the pretty girls for ages!

I'll have to take some!
No the plan is to sell them, but I fear they'll end up burgers (lol) so I would like to give them some kind of job, before I do so!

A and B I would wait until at least 4 preferably 5 if they are going to be done by adults to give time for their skeleton to mature
C and D early 4 at the earliest and anything up to 8 depending on maturity some welshies take forever to finish growing and I prefer them to have stopped growing first if possible

Driving I'd still say 4, but if you can in addition I'd try to find a kid/tiny teen to lightly back them for riding after they are broken to drive. Although they still wouldn't be kids ponies, if they could do basic walk/trot/canter out hacking under saddle being ride & drive will make it easier to sell.
