My friend has a 11yr old GSD who has got arthritis in her front legs (and we believe is now spreading to her back legs).

She is old for a GSD and has lead quite an active life as a "farm dog" so ! know she won't be around much longer but until her owner makes that decisioncan anyone recommend a good joint supplement/therapy for relieving arthritis pain to help make her more comfortable?

I had very good results with Equine America's Cortaflex for Dogs. It has been very good for two elderly whippets.

Has she thought about a bioflow collar? I used one on my dog when she got arthritic and it made a huge difference to her.

My rottie had arthritis in her toes and wrist. She was on Metacam and Seraquin and did fine on that. If she had a bad day you could up the dose of the the Metacam.

Riaflex for Dogs every time for me.

My dog had an horiffic reaction to metacam - I honestly thought she was going to die. Some dogs just dont get on with it at all.

I came on here afterwards with the same question and someone suggested Riaflex - I have not looked back.
I have even took her back picking up 3 season's since!
She has not limped since being on it, it's fantastic stuff!

Try a magnetic collar. My oldest husky started to show signs (quite bad at times) of arthritis in her back legs a while ago. I tried devils claw which didn't seem to help at all. Then I remembered that a few years ago my Mum tried a magnetic collar on our elderly lab and it really helped him.

I picked up an armadillo one on ebay for about £12 (new). It took a couple of weeks but the difference has been incredible. Before we would take her for a walk and then she'd go lame for a bit. Now she isn't going lame at all even after long boistrous walks. I'm hoping that she'll be able to do short runs in harness again next season (she's only 8 so not too old to be doing that by a long way). Well worth a try.
