Horse had bilateral stifle athroscopy 3 weeks ago and had some large areas of cartilage removed. He's been on 2 weeks solid box rest and this week we've started walking out for 10mins at a time. However, he's not right - not too bad on a straight line but when turning on either rein or manouvering in the stable I can see he's uncomfortable and not distributing his weight properly on either hind leg. I've spoken to the vet to check whether we should go back a step to 24/7 box rest but he says the walking out will do him good. Does anyone else have any experience of this, should I gradually see an improvement - I'm a bit worried that the walking out is going to impede the healing of the cartilage. Should he be starting to look sound, he didn't look particularly lame before the op (prob cause bilateral) but certainly looks no better now. Any words of advice please?
