im choosing a new turnout rug for the pampered princess.... but im not sure whether i get a rug with a necl attached or a detachable one????

stupid question i guess but im utterly confused......

ive always had atached necks but im not sure whats best..... ?

thank you HHO :D

Lol. I'm the opposite to GG - I don't like the detachable necks

All the detachable neck ones I've seen end up with gaps where the neck joins the body.

I looked at a very expensive version last year. Was very close to parting with well over £200 if memory serves me right, went outside to see some in action as it were, and both horses with the rugs on had the bottom part of the neck piece turned up and there was a large gap :(. So saved my pennies :D

I think that if it is cold enough to warrant a rug, then the attached neck gives the better overal warmth and protection.

Just my vies, but I am a bit barking, so all my neds have far too many of every type....:rolleyes::D

I prefer detachable necks as they're more flexible, luckily the l/w and h/w I have with detachable necks (Mark todd and weatherbeeta) have always overlapped fine and never leak in the gap - but maybe I'm just lucky.

conflicting views :D

the ones ive found (ebay and private) are both around the same price.

the detatchable ones looks fab though - nice and snug.... and a nice overlap so no gaps

Can I vote for option 3, no neck? :p

I stopped using the neck on my detachable neck rug because I was fed up of it rubbing out her mane (all in one combo styles also rub her mane out). So I have now cut up the neck for patches when the rug needed mending. ;)

I've found detachable necks don't rub the mane out, and attached neck do rub it out :( Therefore her attached neck rug will only be used when it is VERY cold with a half neck rug underneath ;)

dear god im so confused now :D :D :D lol!!!

im thinking the one with the atached neck... its £35 frm ebay... but its blue :( i wanted pink!!!
(but not for an extra £20!) lol!

Detachable necks every time for me. Fal rugs have zipped neck covers so no gaps ! Amigo / Rambo don't have a gaps either.

When a horse grazes a fixed one doesn't go down with his neck so the top of his neck becomes exposed. With the detachable neck cover they tend to move down with the horse's neck so keep the neck covered more. Also fixed ones tend to rub the mane more than detachable neck covers.

Another thumbs up for detachable! The manes seem to get less rubbed than with an attached neck!!

another thumbs up for Amigo, the zip on my Fal has come away before and had to be repaired.

Ok, just to throw another spanner in the works.

Ive found that the detachable necks rub the manes out!!

Depends on the shape of horse and rug really!

Another fan of detachable neck here!! :)

All the attached neck rugs I've ever had - even my Rambos have rubbed the mane.

The Rambo I have with detachable neck does not leak at all but the cheapie version Amigo do, however it is only a little bit and not enough to worry about, especially for the price!

I like detachables - then you get the best of both worlds. Mark Todds are great. They overlap really well. And there's one make where the neck cover attaches to one D-ring behind the wither, and two more D-rings on the sides of the rug.

why did i ask!? :D :D

no seriously - thanks for all the replies.... im not sure really what to go for but i think the price will determine that

the detatchable ones are £55....(with neck which is fab)... attached are £35!.....

see which comes up first - only plannin to get it in the next few weeks and use it in the depths of winter!
