Attaching bridle numbers

Ok I may be being really dumb right now but I have bought a pack of bridle numbers but can't see how you would attach them to a bridle. It has an elastic piece top and bottom, I'm sure it's really simple but Im just not getting it!

After much googling I have found the following -

I have ones with elastic loops top and bottom. I simply wrap the elastic round and round the strap (just above the buckle ideally so it stays there) until its tight then simply loop the end over the little hook. Do the same again for the bottom elastic. Never lost one yet.
