Attaching ear bonnets

My horse wears a Mickleham bridle and, when we compete, also an ear bonnet. I can thread the bonnet through the cheek piece but when he shakes his head, the entire bridle comes off. Not good.

On a 'normal' bridle I don't think it would be an issue as you have a throat latch behind the cheek, but the Mickleham makes it easier for the whole thing to slide down his face.
Has anyone else faced this?

i can only really see them staying on properly using the bonnets that have velcro to attach head piece behind the horse's ears. I have same problem hearing a usual bridle in that if she shakes her head, eventually the material tucked under the head piece behind her ears will come loose and it will fall off. A lot seem to come with string attached to wind round throat latch but for the life of me, i cant see how that helps keep it on as if it came off behind the ears the string is only going to keep the bonnet flapping round the horse's head, likely covering his eyes and creating panic and a dangerous situation.

Would love to hear others advice on this too.

My mare wears a Micklem and a fly bonnet, she flips her head about a lot and it's never moved, let alone the bridle fall off!!

How are you fitting it? Sounds as if the bridle might not be fitted right if it falls off when your horse shakes his head...

My bridle has never come off on its own, although to be fair, he never really shakes his head. I have the 'throat latch' snug, but not tight. Perhaps I just need to tighten it.
