Hi i would just like to share my story and hopefully make people aware of what can happen, we own 3 horses and have had horses for a long time. In August of this year we turned our 12'2 pony out in the field that he normally went in, in this field was about 5 gieldings and a new 17 hand horse, my pony was in the field for 10 mins when the new horse attacked my pony totally unprevoked, the horse gripped my pony by the neck and dragged him to the ground before falling ontop of him. the attack took mins, my pony suffered rips to his neck that took 76 stiches, 35 metal staples and a 3 inch by 2 inch depth open wound thatwas 2 big to stitch. Why i m telling my story is that the horses owner was insured and under the animal act should of been liable to pay my vet bills but 4 months on we are still fighting to get them paid due to loop holes, so please be aware that if another horse attackes yours it will probably be you that has to not only suffer the pain of caring for your horse, but also footing the bill.

thankfully after alot of care and vet visits he is onthe mend now

Sorry to hear about your pony.

I would have thought with 3rd party insurance they would have paid up - do you know what 'loop holes' the insurance company is claiming?

yes am sure most folk assume that they all get on. my daughters welsh c did a bit of damage to a little mare that we know now for some reason he just hates. he has attacked a couple of ponies he takes a dislike to and it iis definately to cause damage and not just playing or pulling rank. even a year on he still will not tolerate this mare so its not just a case of getting to know.
