Just been told that a horse in the field next door to us was found with a headcollar on that doesn't belong to the owner or either of the other liveries. There were bits of wood in the field, not sure what was meant by that but the general feeling is that someone was trying to steal the horse. Its an isolated field next to the road with a few wooden stables so very vulnerable, but our horses are right next door.
Nothing untowards has happened to ours as you cant drive into our yard but they had their gates open onto their yard. Going to park the lorry accross the gate tonight to be on the safe side.......oh its a horrible feeling, just being a sitting duck waiting for the thieves to take anything they want.....
Forgot to say, we are in Burton on Trent

Oh that's awful. Cant even begin to imagine how id feel if my horse was taken, one of the reasons I pay more than i can afford rather than just rent a field as our yard is completely away from any roads. I'm in staffordshire too x

Please ensure that your horses are freezemarked on their shoulders, your tack postcoded and your lorry/trailer postcoded in large lettering on the roof so that in the event of theft they can be identified. A freezemark can be seen and read by anyone unlike micro-chipping which can only be read if the correct scanner is used. (there are about 5 different systems and therefore the scanner of one system does not read all the other systems micro-chipps).

I agree totally if more people had their horses freeze marked there would be less to steal. Micro chipped doesn't seem to stop them going if you look at the register several missing horses are chipped. Cant see horse thieves walking around with a scanner in their pocket.
