With the show season for me soon around the corner I need to ask about attire.

I competed last year in dressage so have go the outfit for that but thsi year i want to do more.

So can you tell me what i'm supposed to wear for....(all at local level)

Jumping

Ridden classes

Inhand classes

Thank you :)

jumping is similar to dressage - dark jacket, White or beige breeches, 'pastel-coloured' shirt and long boots. Bsja rule book said something about stocks only with tweed jackets but can't remember the details.

ridden class depends on the type of horse. mines a wh type so I wear tweed jacket, cream breeches, cream shirt, navy tie, black long boots and a navy hat with flesh-coloured straps.
not sure about in-hand but think it's shirt, tie, waistcoat and trousers (dark if horse has light legs and vice versa)

Dressage and show jumping you can wear the same stuff the only thing I change is I put the over collar on SJ and a stock for stressage. Showing depends on the class you are in but at local level you will normally be fine in cream or biege jods and a tweed or navy jacket. For in hand if you have ridden as well that day just go in what ever you are wearing but if not dark trousers if your horse has light legs and light trousers if your horse has dark legs. hope that helps :)

well for sj you can wear almost anything i wear a tweed jacket with white shirt pc tie cream jhods and my skull hat with velvet cover some people wear a black or navy jacket or a jumping coat thingy and at some shows you can just wear a hoodie etc
for showing it depends on the breed - as mine is native i wear tweed jacket , cream jhods, short boots with jhod clips as i am 16 and under if you are over you should wear long boots i wear a velvet hat, white shirt and purple tie with stars and matching scrunchie, if you are not native then black or navy jacket with a coloured browband to match your outfit
and similar thing for inhand classes as long as you stay local o you can get a special in hand outfit

thanks for the tips - but still a little confused - do i need to get a shirt and tie?

Items i own -
white jods
navy jacket
tweed jacket
white show shirt
white stock

Now i do have some leather long boots but i dont like riding in them - would i be okay with black jod boots and black half chaps?

I show in my black short boots and gaiters so as long as they look smart you will be ok. If you are planning on showing you should technically be in beige or cream jods and as for the shirt and tie it depends what classes you are in. What classes are you going to do?

well i was thinking a few jumping classes - maybe a ridden class (ridden coloured) and in-hand coloured. Might do more though, will just see how brave i am on the day!

at local level you should be able to wear half chaps - I would check with the steward though.

if your wearing tweed for riding classes you need a shirt and coloured tie (I was told no White shirts).
i think I'm right in saying that cobs are shown in workman-like attire so no coloured browband and a tweed jacket.

If you want a cheap way to get a cream shirt buy a cheap white one and some new dusters and put them in soak together for a while and your shirt is now a cream one. FWIW I show in a white one with my tweed so wouldnt worry to much :)

For ridden coloured you need tweed jacket, pale blue or yellow shirt with a tie and tie pin, beige or canary jodphurs, navy velvet hat and hair in a bun with hairnet (adults shouldn't wear scrunchies), long black leather boots or gaiters and short boots, brown gloves and cane.

Without seeing your horse it would be difficult to say whether they should wear a velvet browband or not.

Inhand would be the same as ridden but change the jodphurs for smart trousers but no black women don't wear black (light for dark legs, dark for light legs) and wear your joddy boots.

Your horse can where there ridden bridle for inhand with the reins taken over the head.
