Well, 3 whole days of fun coming up (the mixed weather that is!)

Whats your plans?

No coal face for me tomorrow, so hacking 1st thing then course walking for hunter trials on Sat (only tiny, but we've only done 1 to date - in Oct last year - and that wasn't worth reporting on whatsoever!).
Sat hunter trial
Sunday a jumping comp called Equicross at an RC, never been there before or done that before
Monday is our RC fun day at the local PC field, so i signed up for XC & SJ...... I think B and I will be a little weary by Monday eve.

I’ve just read the title properly (sorry TFF) and realised it’s a BH so I may find something to do on Monday as S is officially back from holiday quarantine ? Two outings in two days, I don’t know who would be more knackered, me or the horses ?

Michen enjoy hound exercise, it’s on my list to do in the next few weeks.
TFF don’t wear yourself out and have fun.

First lesson on share horse tomorrow which I'm really looking forward to as I hope it will help boost my confidence. Bit nervous as dont want to look like a numpty in front of owner and haven't met the instructor before, but I hope it will help me with getting to know share horse and get him going nicely. I think we are going for a short hack afterwards this time with some company on horseback which will be nice I think, and getting to know more people at the yard.

'Camp' (no camping!) at riding school for the day Sunday. Booked flatwork and hacking, and again hoping the extra hacking will help with building confidence. Also looking forward to meeting other clients at the riding school as I have private lessons normally.

Quiet saturday I was supposed to be grooming for a friend at llany which has been abandoned in favour of synchronised swimming. I may see if I sneak a flat lesson in for us at a clinic up the road - my instructor is there regularly but I thought I'd have to miss this time.
Sunday leg stretch and monday weve got the 70 ode at eland ?

It sounds like everyone is very busy!! Should be a fun weekend.

We're off BDing on Saturday for Danny's first Novice test. I was feeling pretty calm about it until the times came through last night and it turns out CDJ is going in after us  Better than having to follow her in I suppose!! We also seem to have lost our right canter transition so I'm hoping that reappears before Saturday...

Yeah very exciting to be there with her!

I had a memorable regionals at Somerford where CDJ was competing in the adjoining arena, not only was Topaz a loon in the warm-up and seemed intent on running her over, she then freaked out on the go around and I was 'slightly' afraid we were going to join CDJ in her arena ?.

not much on here, more general trundling and just catching my breath after a manic fortnight.

New amazing matchy arrived in the post today so will be giving that a whirl (if anyone saw the exclusive Esky graffiti that Matchy Dressage and Chess Jones did, we will be modelling the caribbean blue one :p ) Darcy up first because I rode Kira this morning.

We had a lesson on Tuesday afternoon which I kept meaning to add to last week's thread but I kept getting called away in the middle of writing it. anyway the central theme was when she's difficult (as we're approaching regumate time again) it's more productive to let her steer the direction of the session than to be too fixed about aims. So long as SOMETHING gets nudged closer to GP by the end then that's OK, so if she's too nappy to do passage but e.g. wants to do 1 tempis that's fine. at the moment there's so much to chip away at it sort of doesn't cause an issue to let her choose what we do.

At some point she will have to knuckle down and do as she's asked but not until a few more pennies have dropped. When her understanding of an exercise improves then she stops napping anyway ;) I'm not really planning to compete her until next year, the only thing left to aim at, thanks to covid, is the Inter1 winter area festival but I'm kind of over that. we are aiming at an Inter2 in the spring instead so plenty of time for those pennies to be plopping down between now and then.

Sorry to hear about your horse BRB, hope it’s nothing. Sounds like fun times planned for others. Hope all goes well and the weather holds!

Busy weekend here. Day off tomorrow for horsey chores (which I love doing, just pottering about the yard). Saddler appt to finally get new saddles sorted hopefully although might still need to compete in the dressage saddle on Sunday If we don’t find one tmrw. Oop. Then ride, course walk at munstead, get lorry ready and see a good friend I haven’t seen since lock down. Hunter trial at munstead on Sunday, possibly still in the borrowed dressage saddle ? But it’s slightly forward cut and I’ve jumped in it a few times.

Being an oap and visiting a garden on Monday. I’d have hated that as a kid but now I choose to do it! Hoping to fly by on the return leg and visit Tinky, my mare who’s living it up being cared for by Aus.

A bit of a lightbulb lesson yesterday which has made me feel brighter. Have been worrying about finnegan’s lumpy head (Melanoma) and whether it’s impacting his flat work. It might well be but I’ve swapped bridles to the comfitec, and instructor had us working differently yesterday and he seemed much more settled. Did a short bute trial last week (Under vet direction) and it was inconclusive but I might run it again for longer and have my ins school (she rides him every week) to see whether she can notice any difference.

Good luck everyone competing! To ride with Charlotte is quite something :D

Withdrawn from our dressage test on mon, horse not quite right, vet visiting next week :(

I am stealing a ride on my friends super fun cob tho :p

Sorry about your horse BRB :( I hope it's nothing major.

After all this build-up I'll probably find that CDJ withdraws or something ?

I don't normally comment on these threads as I don't have a horse of my own, and rarely have horsey plans more exciting than going for a ride with a friend! But having followed your thread on finding a share, I'm really pleased to hear that you've found something suitable! Hope the lesson goes well.

Good luck against CDJ Jiffy! I think I'd be too star struck to ride properly lol maybe that's how she wins so much - freaks the other competitors out lol

Some exciting long term plans for you and Kira by the sounds of things milliepops.

The weather here is supposed to be perking up a bit over the weekend - I hope so because everywhere and everything is drenched currently

M is getting his shoes and pads put on on Monday so hopefully we'll start building up the exercise a bit if his feet aren't as ouchy. We have been quietly working away in the arena and field for 20-30 mins most days, mostly in walk with a bit of trot and he's going pretty nicely and is very willing so I'm hoping to start building him up slowly again and praying that there is nothing else underlying going on.

hehe

I'm local so see her at shows with the lower level horses periodically - I do find her particularly formidable in the warm up, she holds her line like no one else I've ridden with. I'm not brave enough to hold mine then!

Eek, I'll try to stay out of her way! Thankfully Danny is pretty good in warm ups and isn't usually bothered by the antics of other horses.

yeah K is NOT happy if she thinks her personal space is being invaded so I find it quite difficult to manage actually, I find I end up compromising my warm up to make sure we aren't about to get ridden into by anyone. it's not just CDJ, some of the other olympians are the same- obviously that's how you get so good, by being totally focussed ;) I wish I could do the same but need eyes in the back of my head otherwise I end up with a very very unhappy steed!

Charlie does this sort of little chunner to himself if things upset him - horses being a bit close or quick, me doing weird stuff. I get it, I do something similar when I go ice skating sort of ooh ah er oh a lot as i go round. He also takes random liking so certain horses and does little nickers at them, as well as announcing himself if hes feeling a bit insecure, once hes sorted with a job he cracks on but he can be very vocal at times

A busy long weekend for me, wedding anniversary tomorrow so I am grudgingly spending a night away with hubby (would love to be riding, but I must remember to actually be a wife sometimes - I jest, it will be lovely). A couple of lessons booked in, one flat and one jump. The fences at my jump instructors are now in the field with some xc portables, so hoping to pop over a few of the smaller ones. I also need to film a test for this months haygrazer dressage, which as usual I have left right up until the last minute.

Good luck to all competing and getting out and about. Jiffy, best of luck - I would be too terrified to even warm up near CDJ I think!

So far so good! I do still wonder if I'm 'good enough' for a share but learning all the time so hopefully up to speed soon, and owner seems happy with how it's going. I've gone from 'maybe I'll start lessons again?' at the beginning of the year to share two/three times a week plus lessons, so who knows what I'll end up doing next - feels like a potentially slippery slope! :D

Yards doing another clear round day on Monday so i've been talked into leaving the ground again and this time no wussing with poles - straight to cross poles and then "a tiny bit higher" Not sure we will have same idea on what that means. But maybe I can get them to yell at me periodically so I remember to breathe this time....

Join the club...! There are far worse slippery slopes to be on :D

I got back into riding in 2008, got a share horse in 2009 and a horse (actually two...but one was a baby) in 2010! Not looked back since. The two horses I got in 2010 are both on loan to good friends, I have a 3yo being broken in (they're all PREs) and now a warmblood on loan as a stopgap. Having thought 'going affiliated' would be the pinnacle of my competing career, I have now competed up to Medium in British Dressage and have an ambition to ride in a tailcoat at Prix St George.

It's a wonderful slope and I don't want it to end!
