My new horse a tb x has aural plaques, they are pretty bad in one ear, and are making him very sensitive , he has them much less in his other ear,and they dont seem to bother him so much on that side. So would quite like to do something about them.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with these? What did you use? Any herbal rememdies? old wives tales as to how to get rid? .... ive been told to use canesten cream on it?!

xx many thanks xx

I was told by my vet there is a treatment but can't for the life of me remember what it is (useful eh?!). I was advised it wasn't that great and it could make them more headshy and panicy about their ears. I've found that by rubbing his ears and the plaques they seem to go slowly and he gets used to having his ears touched - also find this easier after exercise :)

Am awaiting vet visit today for this problem. My TB has suddenly become impossible to bridle and the issue seems to be his left ear. He has a lot of visible aural plaque in both ears so I think there must be a link. Hopefully I can post later with an update on treatment, will keep you posted.

ooh that would be brill please. Sorry to hear about your horse's problems, hope the vet is able to help! Fingers crossed for you!

My 35 yr old TB has had these in his ears for a long time. His last owner sprayed things down his ears so now you cannot touch them at all and have to take his bridle to pieces to put it on! I was told by my vet that they could be scraped out but they would eventually grow back. My boy rubs his on fences and this removes them! In one ear he has a very large finger like aural plaque which grows long them falls out and grows again. I have never had any trouble with them in the 9 years ive owned them, they are more a cosmetic problem if it bothers you.

My horse had them really badly, I couldn't tack him up but I twitched him and smothered them in aloe vera gel, within a couple of weeks they had totally gone and never came back.

I'm interested to know too as my tb has them in both ears.

Not tried any treatments before but can now touch her ears - this was impossible before, can they reduce or dissapear without treatment or not?

OMG. I've just asked about this! I've only noticed today the white crusty bits in his ears and looking I have a friend who supplies Aloe Vera products. So warm wash with a sponge I think and aloe vera application?

Hurrah!! It's making me feel all itchy and horrid! :D
