Aural plaques - interesting

Has anyone else heard of a link between Stomach ulcers and aural plaques in horses? It has been suggested to me that they tend to go hand in hand as the plaques are a sign of a compromised immune system caused by the ulcers.
 
didn't know about a connection, but interestingly the only horse I have with aurel plaques (which we are currently attacking with Camrosa) is also a windsucker.

Is it not more likely that this type of problem is more likely to attack a thin skinned horse, and these may be the very type more likely to be competed/stressed/on high protein feeds
 
My aural plaque infested boy is a cribber. This was a theory put forward by a vet who says there has been research done.
 
I hope not because I've spotted one in my new boys ear (in amongst loads of fluff) and other than that he looks the very picture of health.

To be honest I tend to just leave them be. Mac had two when I got him but they dissapeared after about 18 months of having him.
 
Just to confuse the argument, my horse had aural plaques when we got her (treated them with dermafas) but she also gets sweet itch, which is symptomatic of an overactive immune response rather than a compromised immune system

You mean me? Yes it did work, but not straight away. It knocked whatever was causing the plaques on the head but didn't appear to be working, so I stopped applying it, then the plaques went away. I got it online from America:
