Posted a while ago about getting a new kitten. He's now 4 months old.

He developed various lesions and abscesses (head, nose, paws) a few days after this first injection. Vet initially thought possibly a reaction to vaccine and then herpes. Had biopsies and various test which all came back negative and he made a spontaneous recovery.

Unfortunately he then suffered a fractured femur. This was pinned and he had an operation on Thursday to remove the pins. Brought him home on Thursday evening to be on a further 2 weeks on cage. That evening he was pretty quiet but thought just due to op. He went for a wee and made the most horrific noise. He then laid on his back throwing both his legs up in the air! Realised he hadn't weed. Phoned the emergency vet and said to take him down. He was extremely sore to touch. The vet had to sedate him to examine him. When she did it was apparent that he had somehow suffered trauma to his sheath! There as a small piece of tissue hanging off which she removed. Gave him an injection of painkillers and said to see my vet in the morning. Took him to my vet gave me some more painkillers and asked to see him again following day. At this point the leg which had been operated had started to swell. I called to take him earlier the following day as although he had weed he didn't want to eat. (I can only assume the vets who carried out the operation caused the laceration to his sheath when clipping his leg as I cannot think of any other way he could have done this).

At the vets he was very lethargic and she phoned the orthopaedic vets who had carried out the surgery. Was worried there could be an infection so wanted to x-ray his leg and to take some fluid. They called to say he wasn't fit enough to go home and would need to go to emergency vets again as they aren't open 24 hour.

He's now been in the emergency vets since yesterday. His leg is extremely swollen along with his sheath. He's on fluids, painkillers and antibiotics. The vet thinks it's some kind of auto immune deficiency. He struggled to go to the toilet last night so they had to empty his bladder but he has managed to wee this morning and is eating. He's also developed blisters to the inside of his leg.

I'm going to phone the vet now to see how he is getting on and have a chat about what to do next.

Has anyone any experience of this at all? Hope it makes sense?

Don't want to read and run. Have a look at vaccinosis in cats. I know it's a subject which has many sides and arguments. However I have had a cat with it. Would be worth contacting a alternative practicing vet.
Have you been given any answers as to why your kitten has a tear? Why are they giving antibiotics and fluids? Have bloods shown any reason for this. If he is reacting to chemicals then this is adding more chemicals. Good to hear he has been to the toilet and is eating.

Unfortunately not. I can't prove they caused the tear but I can't think of any other way he could have been caused. This was the orthopaedic vets and not the vets he is at now.

They placed him on fluids as he wasn't drinking and antibiotics due to potential infection in his leg. I'm a bit in the dark really and still waiting to speak to them. Think we need answers now rather than just making him comfortable etc.

Will have a look at vaccinosis Thank you. x
