I was wondering if anyone could give me any guidance on auto-immune diseases in horses, I suspect my gelding has something (and I will be speaking to my vet when back from holiday) but it doesn't appear to tally with anything via Dr Google.
Examples:
- Gets chronic mud fever that always leads to very severe cellulitis, requiring several courses of IV antibiotics
- Mud fever has led to strange growths on heels before
- Has had recurrent choke as a youngster that led to scarring of his oesophagus
- had ulcers as early as a yearling
- if he gets a skin disease he will get it chronically when others will have a small patch (eg ringworm will be a patch on others but take over his face.
- he has recently been diagnosed with Uveitis
Otherwise he is presenting well, is fit, good coat etc.
I am currently in the process of (well was!) trying to sell him, I am now considering a loan but I am wondering whether this horse just fundamentally has something wrong with him and will always suffer from something so will be one big vets bill over and above the uveitis bill!!
Thanis so much
