Auto water and horse scooping water out

hi i have an auto water in stable and my girl has taken to playing in it somehow getting water out of it and absolutely drenching her stable and bedding not sure how she is doing it but must be spending some time as my stable is dripping and my bed needs to be replaced every day
before anyone asks it is definately the horse there are no leaks
how on earth do i stop her doing this costing me a fortune in bedding
 
If you lift the little guard up, you'll see a tiny ballcock like you have in your loo cistern, only much smaller. Works exactly the same - the tiny float rises up as water fills the bowl and then it cuts off the water by closing the inlet valve as it reaches the height you've set it at. If it's a new system, you probably need to adjust the height of water by bending the ballcock arm to the correct angle. It might not be your horse doing it at all. If it's a new problem, rather than a new system, the horse may have accidentally managed to knock it, so adjusting the ballcock herself! It may also be broken, thanks to phenominally low temperatures - worth checking. Tried to stop myself saying this but I can't - the best thing to do with automatic waterers in my opinion is to bin them and buy a bucket. You have no idea how much or little your horse is drinking with an automatic system. And unless you check it religiously several times a day, your horse could be getting NO water through if eg it's frozen solid or blocked somewhere. Happened on my old yard where automatic waterers were seen as a time-saver. They were almost a life-ender as 1 horse went down with colic - waterer found blocked - horse hadn't had water for about 3 days we reckoned. Take great care with them.
 
hi buckets big no no she throws them when full or empty
the water has not frozen once ye t i do check it everyday the ball cock is fine it is set at the lowest so that the bowl does not get full to the top as we thought it was this to start with but she has continued doing it
it seems she does just want to play with it which is all well and good apart from her drenching her bed every day
i put a bucket in today just to see what she would do and she did spend a good 20 mins playing in it with her mouth, the bucket was fixed to the wall otherwise she would of tipped it as she was trying to do that too
 
well its been heaven whilst the auto water was frozen but it defrosted yesterday and she back to making her stable a swimming pool ant thats with the bucket in the corner strapped to the wall that i been using for her water whilst it been frozen
ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY RECEIVED

Which type do you have?
I took my horse to a very well known competition centre where they had the waterers that the horse presses with it's nose to refil, and we were asked to leave as my git just kept his nose pressed and flodded everyones stables!:)

You can't blame the waterers for that, you have to blame the lack of basic care by the grooms or owners; they should have noticed as soon as they set foot into the stable; I presume someone did go in to feed, not just lob it over the door? Poor horse, he deserved better from his carers.

Sorry OP, have you tried those buckets you hang on the wall so they can't be tipped over and flung about? They're the only type I can use with my youngsters and have lasted for years.
