I posted a few weeks back about my bichon frise who had developed open cuts on her back paw pads, and one on the front, they looked liked grazes as if she'd skidded on concrete while running. I cleaned them up and out an Elizabethan collar on her and kept an eye for a week..the front pad healed but the back ones were struggling so took her to vet. Vet thought they looked like chemical burns or ice burns from the snow & chemicals in grit, prescribed her 7 days antibiotics & anti-inflammatories & bathing in salt water...still no better so took her to my equine vet last monday as they have a new small pet clinic, again vet thought they looked like burns but was quite puzzled as her pads were just flaking off. She prescribed prednisone, 2 for 5 days, then 1 for 5 days, then 1 tablet every other day until she finishes the bottle along with an antibacterial wash twice per day. Rang the vet yesterday as 2 tablets were starting to make her sick so we went dwn to 1 tablet already, feet are lookin much better & appear to be healing up & softening up, (skin around the edges if he pads was dry & cracking.) while on the phone to the vet she mentioned that she had done some research on the condition and had found that it can be an auto immune response like her body is attacking itself. Have been looking it up on the Internet & found lots of different info but the only symptom my dog has is her paws, there seems to be lots if different symptoms she could have.. She's herself & playful, has been the whole time. Does anyone have by info on this.. .. .? Apologies for the long post.
