Just looking for my wellies and raincoat to go and sort and ride the horses this morning. Cannot believe that we are saying goodbye to summer and going into the autumn/winter months. Do any of you take time off in the winter or do you keep riding whatever the weather? I'm planning to take my boys shoes off around Christmas time for 6 weeks. Can still lunge but it will be no riding.

I looked out of the window today and thought the same....its sunny here but windy and leaves are blowing every where. I get quite excited at he prospect, I love bonfire night, christmas, cold crisp hacks and wearing my winter woolies! But after christmas I get fed up with it and jan, feb and march are depressing!
My two live out, we have no lights and I work til 4 so at best they might get a quick spin on the lunge or a good groom before the light goes during the week. We make an effort to ride at the weekends, usually hacking sometimes a lesson. I make the most of the time at home, as once the yard jobs are done with the horses I am usually home by 5.30 ish where as in summer we hack out til 8 most nights then faff about til it gets dark! I spend the extra time at home cooking nice dinners to make up for all the ready meals poor hubby has to eat in the summer!

I spent the day in South Wales yesterday, we drove upto Llanthony and the trees in the valleys are already starting to change. Once up on the Black Mountains, the heather is out in full flower and the skylarks are no longer singing. We found some amanita fungus on the way back through the woods, which were alive with the reds of hawthorn berries (never seen so many, a warning of a cold winter ahead?) and as we got back to the car, it was raining. Not summer rain either, cold autumn rain!!

Autumn is my favourite time of year though, wouldn't change it for anything!

Rain and wind here, after yesterdays lovely hot sun I think it's slightly unfair!!

Saying that though, I love the cold crisp morning, crispy leaves and wrapping up in my winter wools.. All mine will stay in work until I can't exercise them anymore due to the snow & ice(Which we all know will come!)

Bring it on!!

Can't believe how early it is this year. I'm like Prittstick and will keep mine in work until the snow and ice comes. Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, would just like it to be a little later please.

I love riding in the winter 1.there are NO FLIES!! 2.Whenever it is not raining it is a great treat 3. What else can you do on a rainy Saturday in January?
4. It makes you appreciate an nice warm fire and a cosy up on the sofa. :

My horses are all turned out during summer and are in over the winter. So no I'm not a fair weather rider!! Have to say I love the cold, rain and wind. Love the first fall of snow as well untill it goes rock hard and I fall on my ass every two minutes. Going to buy some of those grippy boot thingy's this year though, I'm getting too old to break my neck on ice!
