Right i am taking Lantern out cubbing in the morning (so excited it will be our first time!!) and i was just wondering what the diffrences are? I have only ever been hunting over winter before - never cubbing.

Do they still jump etc? I know it's slower but how much slower?

Hey,
Not sure how it operates elsewheres but our cubbing rarely has anything to jump and is more about getting the young hounds out and the horses back into it. Went the other week and it was definitely more of a decent trot out day, no mad dashes. It was good for my youngster as there was plenty of stop and start and it did him good as he learnt that sometimes he does have to stand still for a period of time. Bit excited to begin with but then once he realised what was going on he was fine. Was good too because it was a much smaller field than usual.

Midlander has hit the nail on the head. Autumn hunting is a job of work and as such you don't dawdle between the coverts, but there won't be a mad gallop over the hunt jumps as you might get in the main season meets. There is a lot of standing around, depending on what exemption your hunt is utilising.
