Autumnal August Weekend Plans

My Blue actually stayed sound for long enough for the saddle fitter to visit! And, best of all, she managed to adjust an old Wintec I hadn't managed to sell so that it would fit. It's only an interim measure, until Blue loses some of the lard she's piled on over her time off, but I feel a lot more secure than in my TCS.

Secure enough that we ventured out for an off-yard hack today! It's the first time Blue's been off the yard in nine months, and she loved every second of it. She had a bit of a startle when we met a flock of cyclists, all changing gear and whirring and clonking, and a pile of sand had to be given a Firm Glare and a Wide Berth, but she had no objections to a rattly van or a car zooming past.

I was a nervous wreck. I think I only took three breaths in the whole thirty minutes. But we both survived, which is the important thing!
Well done! Some very big steps for you and your Blue too.

Back from Somerford camp last night!

It was a big step for me. My husband died last year and BH went out of work, pretty much, for months. This time last year, I barely wanted to leave the house. I have barely ridden all summer as I've had my land and stables refurbed. BH has been in work at a friend's and I had him back 2 weeks before camp.

He is a pro. Landed in the camp stables and settled right in. First lesson was XC, at 8.30am. He hasn't done XC in over a year and just went right to it. He is greener than his 7 years, but it really isn't his fault as I have had so many traumas this past few years, he has been in and out of serious work.

We kept the work light as he's only been ridden half an hour three times a week, but me managed the XC fine, his first time through the infamous owl hole too. We also did SJ round a full course and a go round the farm ride. He did the river all by himself like a proper grown up. Best of all, he was happy and easy.

There will be pro photos to follow, but this is a short video of around the stables and us through one of the water complexes.

Not horsey but updating on Clover's show...

This was for Prettiest girl and the class was huge! I went home after this, despite having another class booked, as it was so busy she was starting to get a bit overwhelmed but she was so incredibly well behaved for an 8 month old puppy, sat calmly for most of the time, didn't get worked up about dogs getting in her face constantly ( ) and took it all in her stride. It was the size of the class and the proximity of the other competitors that she was getting a bit upset about so that's why we bailed afterwards but all a good learning experience! I don't think they expected it to be so busy, it was just a local dog show!

She looks so proud of herself! That's lovely

Did my 1* and now it’s ticked off my bucket list.
Very impressed - do you have your Vlog up?

we where at the same camp, had a fab time . Where you in block C ?

Yes! Stable no 3.

There were only two horses our side of the whole block. No one beside or in sight at all. Happily BH is an easy keeper and relaxed as a solo man. Just waiting for the photos now.
My daughter was in block C , other side to you . I was in block b . Which worked out great as they didn’t see each other until we where going home .
I saw your chap and remember thinking how lovely he was.

Aw, thank you. I dropped lucky with an internet purchase! I don't know which horses yours were though? Pity we didn't know before we went - we could have met!

Daughter on Dream who was in your barn , and she’s holding them both at the end of camp . Finn who I ride is lighter grey

Beautiful.

As mine was in the opposite side, and as the horsebox was too, I just walked up the empty isle so don't really notice the horses in the other side, other than a sweet hairy cob who had a perpetual bad hair day and a huuuuge TB type. Oh, and the black pony at the other end who bashed the door all night the first night!

We are all just drumming our fingers for photos to be sent then!

the sweet hairy cob was called Neil. With a bigger personality than his size . I think i saw your box as we past it when we went on the farm ride, we where impressed with the sign on the back of it. Great idea, and id like to think it makes other drivers think a bit.

Very late round up of a busy weekend....

Friday wind made travel impossible so no SJ for me. 5th attempt to qualify in a row I had to pull out of! Someone, somewhere really does not want me qualifying!

So I dropped the eventing plan and went to Weston Lawns on BH Monday when I realised the show carried on till Monday and there was a qualifer that day too.

Sat/Sun was London. Hamilton and excessive drunkenness to cope with my mad family, on top of a cold meant I felt utterly shite come Monday. Very tempting to roll over and go back to sleep when the alarm went off. But needs must.. headed off, Lottie jumped well but rolled 2 poles both times as I let the canter get too flat. Definitely sack the jockey round. There is one final chance to qualify at Eland on 31st. I am more likely to go clear there having got my eye in a litte bit at Weston Lawns so I am trying to see going anyway to Weston Lawns as a positive!

Joe lesson Tuesday (is that the weekend still?) went really well. Focused on the canter as she still gets quite excited by canter. So as soon as we have cantered once she gets a bit onward bound, and starts anticipating too much. SO the aim was a slow collected canter, with lots of trot transitions and all on a soft feel. And a session with Mylo which I have written about elswhere.

Slightly rubbish pictures but I'll save the pro ones for a better round! And my camera phone is not great
