Took Big G out with my friend on the piggy pony and had such a good ride, nice combination of roadwork which G loves, meeting lots of horsey friends to sniff and squeal at en route, and some big fields which (where not completely sodden) had a good canter, only a little bit sideways at times!

Anyway, when G arrived he'd just been shod and had very upright, almost like he was on high heels feet. The yards farrier came just after Christmas (NB I have G 85% of time whilst the wealthy owners are working in the city and kids at boarding school, so over Christmas they were home and I relinquished my duties) and shod G for the first time. Now I don't know much about shoeing other than 'it needs to be done every 6-8 weeks' and can see when feet are looking in need of a trim, so not much at all, but his hinds just didnt look right to me...

They look like theyve had the shoe taken off and then the foot has been trimmed then rolled under itself back onto the shoe. Does that make sense? He looks like he's borrowed shoes off lady gaga the way the front of his hoof kind of overhangs the actual shoe. Only on his hinds though, the fonts look fine to me.

Going down a relatively steep hill the other day he was dragging his back feet along the floor. Didn't do anything going uphill or on flat, took him back to yard, trotted him up and he looked fine, nothing other than the funny looking shoeing wrong with his feet (in my eyes) so thought it was a bitodd. Went back out and avoided hill and he was fine, back to normal.

He has been an SJer all his life and now retired to a quieter home aged 18, so was told his original high heeles looking feet were done on purpose to shock absorb more than standard shape feet....Can someone enlighten me a bit into the world of shoeing- google hasnt helped much!

lol no I keep meaning to but then am too ashamed of his mud-monster feet when I get camera out! Will try get a snap tomorrow as would love for someone to set my mind at rest.
