Avon skin so soft

Yes...I use about 1/3 cup Skin So Soft, a tablespoon of tea tree oil, put it in a litre spray bottle and add very warm water up to the top. I shake it and spray it on the horses. Sometimes I add commercial horse fly spray to the mixture. It works for a while.

i do, i dont dilute it. Its the dry oil spray... they sell it everywhere, even in the petrol stations round us. Works well though, was persauded to hike upto some remote hill loch up the top of Glen Shee the other week and was COVERED in biting little blighters, grabbed the SSO from the rucksack, quick skoosh = beasties gone:D When I use it on my horses I dont need to use a lot.

got the recipe from an old livery who spent a lot of time in oz (they all use it out there) mix 1 cup of sss with same amount of white vinegar, citronella and tea tree oil (get from healthfood shops) a dash of washing up liquid then top up with water, it works a treat and smells ok, I have heard other people mix it with cold tea but I have not tried that.

I use it, about a third of a bottle, with cold black tea, a few drops each of lavender oil and tea tree oil (you can also use citronella oil) topped up with water to a litre and a little fairy liquid to emulsify it.

I've friends who swear by it used undiluted for sweet itch sufferers

You must be careful not to use too much essential oils though only a few drops or they can cause harm.... a tablespoon of tea tree oil (as quoted above) sounds an awful lot

GingerCat: You're right. I haven't had to mix up a batch for quite some time. I looked at the Tea Tree Oil bottles and realised that a tablespoon would practically empty the bottle (they are very small). If I remember correctly, I think I used something like 5 drops for the mixture.

Thanks for the replies, some good recipes there! I was just worried that spraying it on neat would be too strong, I had heard that some people's horses had had a reaction to it. I have done a patch test, so hopefully there won't be a problem.

Its fab.

I use it mixed one third sss one third cider vinegar a few drops if essential oils, i use citronelka neem and eucalyptus topped up with water and a squirt of baby shampoo as an emulsifier. Works great.

Please dont use it neat. I did and a combination of SSS and the sun burnt my horse :( Its oil, so I basically fried my poor horse. I was using it neat mainly along his mane line and tail as he was itching with all the midges. Worse still I raved about it to a friend, she used it and her horse got burnt too.

I do still use it but diluted.

Having heard it's used by the SAS, I recommended it to a friend going to a mozzie-ridden part of NZ. She was bitten to pieces. Likewise me in Greece. I've never found anything that works...
