just put the bottle in a hot bowl of water or near a radiator/boiler, the oil solidifies when it gets cold, if you warm it up it goes back to a liquid and you can squirt it.

Must be kept warm as it solidifies when cold, so blocks the squirter, I usually take the top of and immerse in boiling water to melt, please don't put it in the microwave as its oil, it does not end well :)

I tuck mine into my waistband as I'm pottering about in the yard. Take it out and give it a shake from time to time to get it moving. It thaws out after a few minutes. Not got a clue what's in this stuff but it solidifies at low temperatures but remains one of my front line defences against midges (for horses and humans).

I see! and it's a good midge repellent? tell me more!

Well this is the one I currently used (stand to be corrected if there's a better version for equines, and may not be the same version used as the OP!) http://avonshop.co.uk/product/bath-...skin-so-soft-original-dry-oil-body-spray.html It smells quite nice and does wonders for MOST midges - however, very hardy midges in the West of Scotland don't seem to mind it any more in my experience :rolleyes3: :biggrin3:

it doesn't work-not on Scottish midges IME. It has a slight barrier effect but neem oil is better imo. actually DEET is the best thing, just not sure about using it on horses that mutually groom etc. Of course, there's midges, then there's cleggs and if you're really lucky, black fly.

I'd forgotten about neem oil - that does work well! I'm lucky enough to be too far east for anything but itty bitty midges :wink3:

Like anything its important to do a patch test, some react quite badly to Avon SSS

Equimins have recently launches a neem spray which hasn't discoloured my grey (as previous neem products have) and seems pretty good so far, it doesnt smell as strong as most neem products but seems to work quite well
