Has anyone used? Are the recommended?
Since moving into what appears to the incredibly expensive call out zone from our vets I've noticed several times an Avonvale vets car driving past my house.
Looked up online and see they do free (?) or cheap zone visits. We fall into one of the zones so a vet is in my area every Wednesday.
I don't know anyone who has used them though.

I did many years ago in the days of Peter Thorne, Dr. Colles and John Williams. I think John is still active. They had good hospital facilities all those years ago so I would think today is even better and there will be many new vets.

I found John a little dismissive of 'ordinary' horses when I used Avonvale, but it was in the era of him working for the Edgars. Dr. Colles was a delightful man with lots of patience and an expert in his field.

Would you not be in the catchment for TCEH ?

I used them possibly at around the same time as adorable alice and found them very good and they had very good facilities at the surgery.

Ah yes of course! I have used them in the past for a vetting I think years ago.
I see they also do zone visit days and do cover my area. Would you recommend them over Avonvale then?
AdroableAlice, on a completely separate note am i right in thinking your a bit of a vasculitis pro?

I would recommend them over Avonvale yes. They have state of the art scanning facilites, Martha went in shortly after the unit was opened and I was treated to a tour. They were treated to an angry radio active Martha in isolation, apparently she was a bit miffed.

Yes I have a LV horse and fear this summer will be his last.

I'll give them a try.

Aw sorry to hear that, because of the vasculitis or other problems?
I'm trying to avoid rather than treat this summer and wondered when I need to cover up his legs by for the best chances of doing so? (Pretty sure I remember reading you cover your boys legs)

A friends horse was treated there when our local vet was dismissive of helping her horse. Another friend had a horse recovered from a radial fracture of a foreleg when other vets would have suggested euthanasia. I would consider using them if I needed them.

He is fit and well but I fear what will happen when the sun appears. I did cover his legs last year, that helped until it got warmer and the sores appeared regardless. Filta Bac was used with success so as spring arrives he will be slathered in that and I will hold my breath.
