Awful accident at our first show :(

We had our first show today, and we made friends with the people in the trailer next to us, it was also their first show and the mother was very excited to be their with her beautiful grey dales mare, you would have sworn she was a stallion, grat big horse with a neck which was massive.

As she was wating to go in to her class, the mares little friend was in the ring as te area was quite busy she lost sight of him. Well the next thing was ( and I was right behind her), she reard up, it was slow motion, she literally went vertical and went right over the back of herslef, the rider was still on so she got the ful weight of the mare completly the length of her body, her screams are still with me.

It was just awful, I thought she must be dead!!!!! it was that ahrd a fall, and the sound of bones breaking was soo loud.

Luckily she was still concious and although she was bleeding from her groin she still had feeling in her legs, poor poor lady, the air ambulance came and took her away.

It was soo scarey, andI am still shaken up, it was such a shame as she was soo excited to me be their and the mare took a long time to calm down, which made a friends horse also loose the plot.

All the toime she just kept asking me to make sure her mare was ok!!! what a trooper, the medics think she broke her plevis, so fingers crossed for a lovely lady that that is the full extent of her injurys.

BTW we came 3rd, 5 year old daughterwas in the jump off and jumped a wrong jump otherwise she would have been 1st, very kindly they counted her wrong doing as a fault, which down graded her to third, she was just happy to get a rossette

Best wishes to the lady and her family, I have never seen anything like it, have seen many horses go over themselves but never seen one go straight flat out head to toe on a rider, if she had not had a hat on she deffinatly would not have survuvived.
 
What a horrible thing to happen. I hope the poor woman is going to be alright. Also, what a trauma for you, it must have been an awful thing to witness.

Well done to your daughter for winning her first rosette! At least you left the show with something positive.

Sadly freak accidents happen with horses. My sister very nearly had a similar accident when she took her gelding to his first show. He got over-excited, went up and past the vertical and looked set to go over when she came off and he somehow managed to right himself. I've never been so frightened in my entire life, and that was only because I thought he was going over. I can't imagine how scary it was for you *hugs*
 
God, how awful. Hope the lady's ok as a broken pelvis can be extremely serious. My sister's horse did this to me once but thankfully didn't come over (he was too bloody practised at it!). I landed hard on my pelvis though and lost the feeling in my legs for a bit - not nice at all. I count myself very lucky though.
 
That's nasty - fingers crossed she will be ok. That happened to my uncle too but he had a really soft landing so nothing was broken, he just got squished into the ground (and bruised!). If it had been on the concrete nearby lord knows what would have been the outcome. Flippin' horses!
 
Oh dear, sounds awful! Hope the woman makes a speedy recovery :(

That sounds awful. I saw a horrible accident a couple of yrs ago too, someone sat on a horse without hat done up in car park, horse reared and she fell off and was lying on the floor bleeding, apparently she had to have an op as was bleeding on the brain, to relieve pressure. I didnt see the accident happen although I was there, but did have to walk past her and it was horrific.
 
How awful, such a shock for all concerned. A broken pelvis can cause serious bleeding. The air ambulance is a godsend - to think so many lives have been saved and they are funded by donations. I do hope the lady heals well and you get over the trauma of witnessing it. Horrible.

Well done for staying calm and helping after seeing such a shocking thing. I really hope the lady is OK, broken pelvis is a nasty one, fingers crossed she will make a recovery.

Very brave for carrying on too, I wussed out halfway through a show, was doing PC Gymkhana and a girl in the potato race went to jump off and got her foot caught in stirrup, her Arab bolted and all you saw was the girl tumbling around under a flurry of hooves and screaming for her life. I felt really shaken after seeing it so went home. She had some serious cuts and bruising but was miraculously OK.
 
Luckily we had done our round, otherwise would have gone home.

I wont ever forget her screams as she realised what was about to happen, or the sound of something breaking.

She was soo brave, apparantly my OH heard a man say he would have shot the horse on the spot, but the mare really did not not do it out of nastyness, and it clearly was the first time it had happened as she was soo taken by surprise.
