Well not even a fight really more of an attack. Was sat by the main arena on the saturday and some black terrier thing had simply locked onto this womans collie dog round the throat and it was literally screaming poor thing. There were numerous people trying to pull them apart with no sucess. In the end the woman whos dog was being attacked booted the other one to make it get off at which point the attacking dogs owner (a very big man!) started screaming right in her face. (you could tell he had obviously been drinking)

Really made me feel sick watching th whole thing. it was awful hearing this poor thing screaming. I was about to go chuck my drink on the dog to try and make it get off and now im pretty glad i didnt intervene as this guy looked scary!

My question is why the hell do people let this happen? my dog can sometimes be agressive (although never to that extent) with others hence i keep her on a short lead and when she does go to say hello i warn the other dog owner. Surely you know if your dog behaves like that?

Far too many dogs in such close proximity and hot weather

Horrible when this type of thing happens...bloke was obviously a d1ck end...for not getting his friggin dog off....I would have booted the dog into next week had it been my dog on the receiving end

Im not shy when it comes to protecting my dogs....so the fella would have gotten a gob full...if not a good t*ating

I have intervened in a dog fight on a few occasions...one was an elderly labrador being attacked by a large staffi...I placed a leash around the staffis neck and proceeded to choke it...it turned a nice shade of blue and I let go keeping firm hold of the dog

the labrador has half of it's back end ripped of.....as no one intervened and the owner was very elderly

I would do the same again...I have seen the results of a one sided dog attack...it's bloody horrible...esp older dogs that cannot defend themselves

U always have to make sure u get control of the attacking dog or it will jump straight back on.

Water sometimes works well in dog fights....failing that...wait for it

sticking your finger up a dogs backside sharps gets it attention

Or a nearby twig up the bum. Or grab the tail.

I carry pepper spray sometimes, but I don't think it's allowed in the UK.

Was the poor wee Collie okay?

We have had a few fights as we have quite a few dogs and a couple of entire male stud dogs. Most of the time they are fine but every now and again they have scrap!!

A hose pipe down the throat of the dog with the tightest grip usually does the trick!! But this only works if you are close to one!!

Came back onto the yard the other day to find our border terrier on his back with 2 of our patterdales attached to either end of him.. my GSD X was looking rather guilty too so I think he may well have had a part to play in it as well!!

Trouble is our border terrier is a grumpy old sod and usually starts the trouble but cos he's an old git he's not got the strength to back it up!!

I walloped the bitch who let got but kept grabbing back hold, so used my foot (Not kicking her just shielding the border) to keep her away then the big patterdale dog was locked on so I grabbed him by the scruff so he couldn't shake and pushed my thumb in the side of his mouth to prize it open whilst shouting at all of them to pack it in. Fortunately the big boy let go and I was able to hold him up out of the way then I grabbed the patterdale bitch by the scruff too so she couldn't start again!!

Not a nice thing to have to deal with.. the border was fine other than a few scrathces, minor tear to his ear and a rather large case of dented ego!!

We do keep them apart usually, they were only in the yard together as we'd just come back from a walk and the Rotti had wondered off to say hello to someone so my hubby let them into the yard but didnn't put them in the kennels and went to retrieve the Rottie!!

To be fair to our lot they are really good when they are out with other dogs and none of them are aggressive to other dogs outside of the farm.
I took the big patterdale dog to Badminton and he was great, but I kept him on a short lead and only let him sniff other dogs that aproached him with tails wagging.
What I was frustrated by was the number of people who had their dogs on long leads and let them jump all over your dogs without checking that they are friendly. As I said ours are usually very sociable and friendly to strange dogs but Will might not take kindly to another dog jumping on top of him and could give a warning snap.
Unfortunately its often careless people who have over friendly dogs that cause the fights in the first place!!
But also anyone who has a dog who can be a bit sharp should have the sense to wither take them out muzzled or not take them to that type of environment!!

Wise words Foxfolly - and some useful tips! I don't take my dogs to horse trials etc but have no problem with people who do IF they keep them in check - short leads etc. Unfortunately there will always be tw*ts like the guy at Bramham - hopefully someone will have keyed his car!

Likewise! I'd have kicked the dog as hard as I could and bugger the consequences, then I'd have tore a strip off the man however big and drunk he was......and therein lies the problem.........big+drunk+irresponsible, just the sort of people who shouldn't be allowed to own a dog at all.

How was the collie?

Umm folks?

No good hurting a dog that's attacking/biting. It makes them bite harder. I also wouldn't be sticking my fingers into a dog's mouth if it was fighting.

I think getting hurt is the last thing on my mind when dogs are fighting, esp if my dog is involved...strange how the adrenaline kicks in...

A short sharp pain to a dog fighting can actually help immensely in order to distract the attention and get it off...it's always worked for me...esp in a situation where the under dog is likely to be killed or seriously maimed... have been badly bitten by 2 shepherds that where attacking my small colli, I was only 15 at the time and ended up with stitches and my hands ripped to pieces....but my colli got out alive...which was my main concern....again I choked the shepherd as luckily it had a choke chain on, and managed to pull the other into a garden before jamming it's head in a gate still holding onto my colli...until the gate met with it's face

we had a JRT that used to be like that (though thankfully not that bad).

mum always used to say, get some paper and set fire to the end of it, and put it under there nose, they soon separate then.

I was sat a couple of rows in front of this when it happened. It was horrible, really upset me and had to move afterwards. It was really scary. Afterwards one of the little kids who was with them was carrying the dog around !!
