In the field next door to my house is a sick sheep. We've been to the farm and they belong to the farmers BIL. Hes rung him. This is about an hour ago. No one hs been to the sheep. I can see her from my sitting room window. Its going dark. I feel I should ring the RSPCA, but what if the owner turns up in a little while? and what can the RSPCA do in the dark anyway. Also the farmer will know or strongly suspect its us. Bl***y people.

We have sheep, and we certainly don't see it quite like that ! Though the economics are correct, we would come out and check anything that was unwell, at least - but the RSPCA are worse than bally useless, don't get involved with them. What they know about sheep and 39p will buy you a stamp.
Sheep are funny creatures, mind you, they like nothing better than to die.
Once again, what's the matter with it?

Our neighbouring farmer had one like this in the field (next to our horses field) I had seen it was just lying down and actually thought it had already died. It wasn't actually til the next day i noticed it move and was rather horrified.

I went to check on it and myself and my dad got it up on its feet but it could not stand at all no matter what we did but in itself it didn't look particularly thin or injured or anything. We left it lying down (although turned it onto its other side) and rang the farmer and when we went to do our horses again that afternoon it had gone/been disposed of.

I think they can unfortunately quite often just die like that and, as said I don't think, unless the sheep looks particularly distressed, the RSPCA will be able to do a lot. I do think the farmer however should come and put it out of its misery. I imagine it is unlikely a vet would be called to treat it if it is just a bog standard sheep unfortunately.
