I bought a limpet pad for the welsh cob at Badminton yesterday to help with her treeless saddle slipping. Rode her in it today and, after clearing a log, she bolted, then stopped, bronked and reared - I managed to stay on but only with great difficulty, and then took off again. This is totally out of character for her, and I can only attribute it to the new pad. But could it really cause such a reaction? Thoughts please..

Probably totally useless answer but is your saddle slipping a lot? Just thinking that if it is then maybe she got a friction burn as the saddles trying to slip but now cant as much so the pad is rubbing her as it moves slightly

I've never had any experience of this, but I would imagine that maybe it's pulling her hair? After all, it's meant to be grippy, maybe she finds it uncomfortable.

Hi Louby, no not a lot, just can occasionally slip if she jumps to the side for example, so I don't think it could be friction burns. Thanks though

I used to use a stephens gel non slip pad, when star suddenly decided that she couldn't move properly, her stride was short and choppy, she was hollow...... I took her to the saddlers to get the saddle fit assessed. the saddler wanted to see her without the non slip pad and hey ho - a lovely long, relaxed stride, she lifted her back, took the contact down and generally felt about 17hh (She's only 14.2

)

We are doing much better with a Prolite nonslip - much less sticky, but equally as non-slip

Have you used it to replace a pad designed to prevent spine pressure under a treeless?

If this is the case, it might be dispersing your weight onto areas it shouldn't be...

my saddler said something about this stuff (if we are talking about the same) we are going to try some this week i think to see if it will help my round ponys saddle stay put. you can get it from homebase for about 4 quid i think, meant for boats, totally breathable.
