After riding today (1hr) hacking walking only around the roads i was so relieved to get off, my saddle is horrid to ride in, its really hard, the knee rolls arnt cut forward enough for my long legs and it throws me off balance, it was fine to start with for backing etc. It fits my mare fine (had it checked out) but after today i DONT want to ride in it again, bit concerned about it regarding my position therefore affecting my mare? its a synthetic maxam one, never again!

So our disciplines include: hacking, dressage - light schooling, (no jumping as of yet but plan to in the future, possibly will need another fitting by then!)

I am tall at 5ft10 and have long legs

Mare is 14.1hh cob type - think welsh d build - shes a medium/wide fit in saddle. Something that won't roll about when i mount!! shes quite rounded.

Am after something which has good support in the form of knee rolls, cut forward enough for longer legs!! and a comfortable seat :o something which i can feel secure in.

Leather please! gp? working hunter? dressage?

I have a good saddle fitter/dealer who has alsorts of makes/types of saddless in new and used, so wanted to give her an idea of what make am after going from personal recommendations :D

Please share your thoughts/recommendations :D

I had a synthetic maxim for backing, and got rid of quickly. My friend has one and loves it but I never felt secure in it. The Jeffries ones are nice, but expensive :) Maybe look out for a 2nd hand one.

Ideal Gazelle, fab saddle, SO comfy and fits my welsh D like a glove. We had same problem as you, short horse, long legs ;)

I have the opposite problem - short person, tall horse but the Albion Kontrol fits us both like a glove, very safe...though I did come off last weekend, that my fault tho - riding like a monkey...xx

I love my Kent & Masters cob saddle, fits my IDxCob really well & does not roll like others I tried. It's leather & has a comfortable seat which is great for me too.

It is also adjustable which is ideal for those horses whose who's weight fluctuates with the seasons.

They arnt cheap, I bought mine brand new, have yet to see one being sold second hand :)

I'd recommend a free n easy saddle, I don't have one myself, but a friend of mine does and I regularly ride her horse in it. She has a gp one. Incredibly comfortable and great for the horses too! My friend does everything in it, sj, dressage (to elementary so far), xc, endurance, trec!
