Any suggestions on helping a rising 6yo to learn to balance better in canter?
She naturally has a long stride and I understand that, but she is extremely unbalanced.
She works very nicely in walk and trot but it falls apart in canter. Although she's not a forward going pony, she rushes her canter, hauling on the bit and resists me asking her to slow and collect herself a little. She takes a lot to keep together in canter when jumping a course, it just feels all over the place.
She's had back, teeth etc checked so there are no problems there.
She is the same on the lunge, can't keep her canter and trails herself along by her front end, doesn't use her hindquarters at all.
We've tried quite a number of exercises to help her balance but I'd like to hear some more suggestions :)

I had the same problem with my boy. I had a lesson with a very good dressage rider who had us working on a 20m circle, firstly asking for a canter transition then after about 4 or 5 strides in canter coming back to trot and repeating, to get his quarters to engage.... then we moved on to cantering half a 20m circle pushing on in a faster canter, before collecting for half a circle. Trust me, for the first 20 mins it was pony club gallop with ginger furry ears shoved up my nostrils (despite the running martingale), but by the end of the session there was a distinct improvement. That was over a year ago, and his canter is much more balanced now than it was. Not sure if that helps you..? what exercises did you try? (always keen to widen my schooling exercise knowledge as I think to get someone else's view on an issue usually opens up a whole new world of schooling exercises!)

What do u lunge her in?? Maybe lunging in a pessoa would help??

I will only ever walk and trot in a Pessoa but if she is working correctly and building muscles in the correct places then surely this would help with her balance
