Got my towing test next week, and I'm absolutely terrified! I can do all the things you need to do, but I'm really worried I might slip up somewhere and do something in the wrong order or forget to look in my mirrors before a gear change!

Can anyone who's already done it offer any advice or tips? How many 'minors' are you allowed before you fail on the driving bit? I really need to work on driving up to speed - I'm used to towing the horses with my L plates and driving under the speed limit, but obviously need to be quicker on the test so I don't fail for hesitation. My instructor also says I slow down too far ahead of junctions so need to get my head round that!

you'll be fine, i passed last wednesday and didn't think I would after my last lesson!

not sure on number of minors, I got 3.

I stuffed up the reverse cos my leg was shaking and I was concentrating on the white line too much, and the trailer ended up facing the wrong way in a circle- so took a big shunt practically back to where I started!

I slowed down too late, so opposite to you, hadn't towed the horses much and used to a 1.2 clio (and not the power of a big mitsubishi

I was a bit of a ditherer at roundabouts (working on the better safe than sorry!) and got one hesitation, but as my instructor said you can have a few of those you can only have one of the opposite.

I had leg shake in the reverse as well!!

Luckily did it amazingly smoothly though!

I passed last week as well, your allowed 14 minors overall - so it depends on how many you pick up in the reverse etc (before you go out on the roads) how many you can actually have out on the drive section. Is like a car driving test though, three minors in one section and its a fail. But don't think like that - you'll be fine!

I've towed loads before, which wierdly I think made it harder, as you have to drive up to speed and use the clutch more, whereas when I actually tow I keep much slower and work the gears more to keep control! So forget this is for towing a horse would be my advice, keep up to speed and "make progress when safe to do so"!!

Ditto ester about roundabouts, I got a minor for hesitation at roundabout, but you can afford two of them whereas other way around you'd fail!

I had fun at a motorway roundabout, a punto car had overshot his turning and was trying to reverse back up to turn off

- nutter, at busy 4 lane roundabout!! Examiner told me to sound the horn and wound down his window to shout at them

!!!

You know what they say - bad practice good test - so good luck!

OMG I had that leg shake aswell in reverse and had to pull forward and start again - i felt the instructor was really lenient though - i think as long as your a confident smooth driver and dont hit any kerbs or do anything drastically wrong youll be fine!

I was petrified, like everyone else my leg was shaking so much i worried i'd stall doing the reverse.
I actually went down the route of chatting the examiners head off (think more to do with the nerves) and explained that i'd be towing a horse trailer blar blar so i think he had a bit more sympathy for my hesitations pulling out etc. Youve got plenty of minors to use up. you still pass if you use 1 or 10. Also advise if you need to shunt in the reverse use it better to try again than keep going and mess it up completly.
I took 6 attempts at driving test and passed first time towing.
Think positive and think about all the freedom you'll have once you do pass!

Ooooo, Good Luck!! I'm sure ul be fine, and its reassuring to hear that you've all passed as I had heard reports that they were really difficult to pass! Planning on taking lesson myself soon when I have money! lol!!
Good Luck and let us know how you did
