Overnight, my Kawasaki Mule stolen. Rang insurers and they said fourth mule stolen in our area over w/e. Police have been over and basically say "ah well, good thing you were insured..." So we've moved all tack into the house(real pain) and are now wondering what they will come back for....

is it any wonder that they chance it? Same with our electric fencers. Among other things. Oh well.

I have this theory that if they clamped down on small stuff, it would eventually work its way up. It's the kid who risks nicking a fencer, who, when he gets away with it, goes onto bigger things. If he would be nicked, fined and given a particularly grisly stint of community service, maybe he'd give up!

Too right. Also changes in legislation which mean police cannot go on "fishing" trips means that police are toothless. Copper reckoned it will be on traveller site 8 miles away...but no-one wil dare pay them a call because they threaten revenge on family etc..so they get away with stuff through intimidation...

Well its not going to help, but when I first read this I thought you mean a Mule as in the horse cross!

So I am pleased it was a machine rather than animal!

Police seem to let the travellers get away with murder, now the government is making councils provide more sites for them - just makes my blood boil!

A friend owns an equestrian centre. They had two quads nicked last year. He had the same reaction as you when he spoke to the Police.

Very fortunately a regular client of theirs has a boy friend who is from a 'known' local family, he made a few 'enquiries' and my pal received a phone call from a very worried agricultural machinery dealer, who asked when they wanted the quads delivered back.

The trouble is, we all play by a set of rules that these people don't recognise

Spoke to a policeman last weekend, just a social visit. He told me what had happened to the lad who had been nicking lead off houses locally, he admited to 7 out of 20 thefts, over £2,000 of lead. He was fined £250 and let go. Crime does pay. Until there are more suitable sentences / punishments, people will carry on.

It certainly seems that way. My bro-in law had two new jcb diggers nicked two weeks ago (£40k a piece). Police have an aerial shot of them on a travellers' site...but won't go in...

I was recently travelling in the midlands and saw a travellers group, (you know transit van pulling a caravan),of about a dozen vehicles trundling along a busy main road. Not one of them had a single window left in one piece.

Just thought I'd mention it!
