B licence tow-ers... What car and trailer?

I have a vauxhall Vectra 1.9cdti and a downplated ifor Williams 401. I have only been to places with hard standing, or to dry grass fields in summer, so have not tried in wet/muddy conditions, but so far have not had any problems.

The car is my boyfriends and he commutes from Nottingham to Leicester in it and thinks its pretty economical x

1425 would be the kerb or empty weight

GVW (MAM) is the maximum weight it can be when fully loaded

Sooo...I *think* (from a quick google) the GVW ia 2050kg, it can tow up to 1500kg...so if I can find a Bateson Derby (675kg) get it downplated to 1450kg, and just tow 480kg pony, I should be safely within the limit with a pug 406 estate?

Or does it have to be less than the 1425kg unladen weight of the car? So would have to downplate to 1400kg?

You got it :D

2050+1400=3450 so not over 3500
1400 is less than 1425 so that rule is complied with

480 pony plus other stuff in trailer of 70 kgs = 550 kgs

1400-550=850 so any trailer with an unladen weight of under 850 will work

Yey!! :D You're a star, thanks for your help. Now you just need to tell me where to buy a lightweight trailer 2nd hand in Leics.... ;)

Thanks again :)

Just had a google and there are lots of them about...but lots of different unladen weights have come up...it's a bit of a minefield isn't it?! I'd be pretty happy if I could get a trailer that would do the job for £700 :)
