Due to pregnancy and a newborn I have been stuck doing just groundwork with my girl since November. I was back riding for a week when she cut her knee in pasture and got an infection (just soft tissue and not lame), then reacted badly to penicillin so I have been stuck with weeks of clay poulticing to draw out the infection. On Friday it looked like we were out of the woods and I did'nt poultice her, just treated the wound. Well the swelling is back, the poultice is back and I am beginning to think I will never ride again :(
Of course her health and wellness comes above my desire to ride, but it's frustrating. Sorry, just had to have a wee moan about it :o

Try get your hands on some hypocare awesome stuff for infection...I'm currently gargling with it to help ulcers on my throat!

I don't think Hypocare is available over here yet. I'm using Cothivet and Finish Line Premium Poultice. And patience, lots of patience. The worst part is that she is an oldie (22) and I worry that her age will make it that bit harder for her to regain condition, especially over the winter. She has lost a lot of topline since I stopped riding, which I hate to see. I did have a sharer for ridden work but they quit the week she got injured, after not doing very much anyway. Bah.
On the plus side I suppose it does give us a definite goal to work on in the next few months. We will both be huffng and puffing our way around the shcool when I finally get back on board...:D
