A very tired Teffy is back from Scope... a day early! lol!
Arrived at Scope last Saturday, found a nice spot for the lorry... it was big enough for 2 lorries but with abit of tactical parking by em_bee we managed to take up all the room allowing us some elbow room for our BBQ and chairs etc
The temp stabling was still being put up and the queue for wristbands was eeeeeeerrrrr LONG
but we got sorted and settled in for the week!
Our first class was Monday with Baby Bell... the 5yo class in the indoor championship arena
the class was 1.15m and Bell has only ever jumped 2 or 3 Newc's before and we have only jumped him indoors once before
The warm up wasn't going well, it was like a wall of death in the little indoor warm up and Bell was getting tense... he went in, we really didn't know what to expect has he has never jumped a 1.15 class and when he's tense he tends to flatten but he really tried hard and took on the fences, he didn't look at any of them or all the goings on around the arena (or the fountain with water wheel!) but after having a couple of poles (its only double clears that qualify) Mat pulled him up and retired after he jumped a huge spread really well to leave him on a good note. They got a REALLY LUSH picture of him over the spread which we have bought and I will post once it has been sent to us
We weren't jumping again to Wednesday so spent Monday evening at the fair... I have to say that em_bee was a little 'terrified' on one of the rides
(but not nearly as bad as Harrity who would only go on one of the smaller rides!!
)
On Wednesday both horses were jumping, Bell was jumping in the 5yos again but this time outside in the Grand Ring, which he was much happier with... he was really settled and the training Mat has been having with an Int SJ on him recently really showed!! He jumped like a stag and when he cleared the second from last fence I really thought he was coming home on 4 faults (which is REALLY respectable in the 5yos) but he jumped Mat out of the saddle at the second from last and drifted out to the left and didn't get back straight for the last a double of uprights and come in wrong (with a spectacular bum skid!) which meant he had to be represented to the fence. Apparently alot of horses had trouble at this fence.
Later on it was finally Cordy's turn to jump in her class which had way over 200 starters in
She came out really FRESH and also in season (which is never good lol!!
) so after an interesting warm up where she lived up to her nick name 'Moose' and she also was practising her 'airs' as well was her jumping, she jumped in her class to have and uncharacteristic 2 fences down
so was sent to bed with her dunces cap on
Thursday it was just Cordy to jump... she warmed in really well and jumped a beautiful clear in the first round
but lost her steering in the jump off and forgot how to turn left
so went to bed with her dunces cap on again
Friday was Bell's turn to jump again, he was in the Grand Ring again, we thought the 5yo consolation class would be abit more forgiving but noooooo.... it was a spread as the first fence, then a triple bar as the second fence (em_bee's fav
) to a wall as the third fence.... and the last fence in the jump off phase was MASSIVE!! Bell warmed in REALLY well, not touching a fence in the practise ring, I missed some of his round as I was telling someone the course but he finished on 8 faults, we were really pleased with him and the way he is going as Bell is now waiting and letting Mat hold him into the fences rather than trying to rush the last 3 strides to them (which they have been working on in their last training session) hence he is getting up in the air much better and not flattening and having poles! Although Bell wasn't really ready for a 1.15 class in competition, he gained from the experience and he really seemed to enjoy the show... I am really chuffed with him, Mat only started riding him in April when he was still a British Novice horse, now I am looking forward to them jumping some more Newc's
Cordy was suppose to be jumping again today but we were all tired and decided to head home, also she only has £5 left before sh is out of Newc and has one DC to get for 09 so no point in competing in the consolation class when we wouldn't have wanted to get placed, we wouldn't have minded missing out on the Newc second rounds for a championship but not for a consolation class! So home it was
