Such a dude! Goes straight down with the ropes now; lift his foot up and put a bit of pressure on his neck, and voila, one led down coblet. Stays down till he's asked to get back up too, can go all over him without him stressing etc. Angel :) First time I did it myself today, as the trainers done it the other time. I was a bit worried about using the ropes as heard so many horror stories from people trying it, but apparently did it fine so that was a relief!

Thankyou! :) I hate smiling or looking at the camera...but wanted one of the both of us...so opted for eyes shut hahahaha.
 
What a clever chap. And well done for doing it in such a careful way. A friend admitted to me that they messed theirs up. The horse was trained to lie down but one day didn't really fancy it, eventually my friend lost his patience and tried to force the horse down, succeeded that one time but then the horse never would do it again for him, it lost all trust in him with that trick. It was very honest of him to admit it. That thought makes me really careful with how much I ask of my horse.

Yes, that was I was told as well, never, ever force; only guide and offer them do it in their own time and 'want' to do it.The ropes only work by you holding them, not pulling at all, and it's just their body weight which holds the foot up - not you.
That'll be him done for a day or two, as don't want him sore or aching anywhere as got told he'll be using muscles he'll never have used before, so make sure to give him a day off inbetween, as even though he's more than willing to please, to not put him off by rushing him. And and vary it up whatever he does each day. [Like today was back to lying down, yesterday, was just general softening work in-hand and getting him stretching and flexing etc.
The other cob we're doing it on, he's taking a much longer amount of time needed, but again, that's just him and he'll get it in time, but at his own speed.


He's such a honest genuine chap, I think the world of him :D
